Saying that Rockstar Games is working on a new Grand Theft Auto game isn't exactly a bold prediction. However, sources close to the Take-Two Interactive subsidiary have confirmed to GameSpot that the next installment in the blockbuster series is "well under way" and is already having final touches such as minigames being applied to it. The sources said a 2012 release was "pretty likely," adding that the game's scale was vast. "It's the big one," they said. Unfortunately, the sources would not divulge any further details on the project, which is already the subject of much speculation. A recent set of casting calls from a talent agency point to the game as being set in a Los Angeles-like metropolis, with a motley crew of California characters being filled for a voice-over session. Prior rumors had the game being set in the Miami clone Vice City. As of press time, Rockstar reps did not have any comment on casting calls, the game's setting, or whether a new GTA was even in development. Wherever the next GTA is set, it will have some big shoes to fill. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto IV, was a massive success for Rockstar and Take-Two. As of March 2011, the game had sold nearly 20 million copies, placing it among the top-selling games of all time. Its forebearer, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, sold more than 12 million units globally, with its domestic 9.8 million-unit haul putting it in NPD's top 10 US best sellers of the 2000s.
Source: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6320305/grand-theft-auto-v-development-well-under-way?tag=updates%3Beditor%3Ball%3Btitle%3B6
Here's hoping they go back to their roots of being the kings of creating a chaotic sandbox world instead of another dark, depressing, and boring world that has a good story but not much of a sandbox game.

To be honest I'm really happy with the direction the series is heading and I'd be fine with GTA V providing the amazing story and characters while Saints Row 3 provides the bat shit insane sandbox stuff [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] As long as they both get good PC ports
Yea, I enjoyed san andreas, and vice city way more than gta 4
I would rather see three areas actually, SA was a bit small it seemed, sadly...
I enjoyed the randomness of police car chases with NPCs in the streets or random pedestrians with guns robbing cars in GTA SA. Hopefully they go back to something like that.

I mean, the old GTA games are just not that fun anymore now that I have gotten used to GTA4's Euphoria, Car Deformation, ect. I love the old GTA games because of nostalgia, but the gameplay in gta4 is a lot better.
What I fear is if Rockstar won't port GTA V into the PC just like RDR and L.A Noire.

You and CJ are called back to the streets even though you're old men.
A game with the in-depth story and characters of GTA IV and the roleplay elements of GTA: SA, with a better physics engine and some crazy stuff to do. Then it will be a definite winner.
GTA4's Euphoria, Car Deformation, ect..
Imagine that with the Craziness of GTA: San Andreas.
Imagine that with the Craziness of GTA: San Andreas.
Would be off the fucking chain.
If GTAV doesn't have crazy shit like jetpacks and fighter jets in it then I'll take it as an indication that Rockstar no longer wants GTA games to be fun.
Would be off the fucking chain.
Oh god, imagine being on a bike wearing a jet pack on.
If GTAV doesn't have crazy shit like jetpacks and fighter jets in it then I'll take it as an indication that Rockstar no longer wants GTA games to be fun.
As much as I disliked the amount of "silly" and "fun" things the physics and multiplayer made up for it more than enough.
Seems like they keep the numbered games as serious ones while the spinoffs in a generation are the stylised, fun ones. It's a shame they would go to another serious numbered game but hopefully they listened to people that they liked Episodes and RDR but a silly game would be awesome.
Please be a sexed up 1980's vice city running on the RAGE engine. I have a full theory as to why it is vice city too. Also didn't they say they were already working on GTA V shortly after IV's release? I'm almost positive that i've read it.
I don't need to see gameplay, I don't need to know the plot, all I need to know is the setting and time period.
My body is ready. It gets released. DLC exclusive to 360 for 2 years. PC version is a shitty port. Fuck Rockstar.
looks like someone hasn't shot up their local cluckin bell
I would have much preferred being able to hover a harrier in the street in front of the cluckin' bell and fire missiles through the front window then get into a dogfight above the statue of liberty
No phone calls!
bring back the army and with tanks. That was fun. Rollling through the streets with a tank.
Will they have real license plates this time?
How about a game that is a cross-over between the 3 major settings? The game takes place in Vice City, San Andreas, and Liberty City, and you are free to travel to any of them at any time. [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] Call it like GTA: Ultimate or something.
A lot of space, unlimited choice and possibility would be awesome.
