"He wanted to be judged by a jury of his peers," Magnotta's lawyer Luc Leclair said on his client's behalf. "He accepts the verdict. For quite some time he has been preparing for the verdict with his father, some friends and his therapist. He has been focusing on rebuilding his life."

Leclair said Magnotta will take some time to examine the merits of an appeal. He has 30 days to file one.

Magnotta was also convicted on four related charges and given maximum sentences allowed under Canada's Criminal Code, ranging from two to 10 years, for those charges.[/QUOTE]

Also, "Porn Star" is a bit of an exaggeration, IIRC he was in a few shitty, low-budget films.

This guy had a history of torturing and killing cats which put him at odds with 4chan. Many users hated him. It was already known fact at the time that he was a gay porn actor. Years later, a video pops up with a guy stabbing and dismembering someone. People recognize the man in the video as the cat killer (Magnotta) from before. They somehow find the source of the video and alert authorities in Montreal to the fact they have a killer on the loose. Montreal police dismiss the video and the claims as fake.

Then body parts start showing up in the mail. Oops.

Oh well, glad this fucker is going away, he is all sorts of bad.

For clarification: The two can work co-morbidly, as to say, one can have psychopathic personality traits and have psychotic episodes, which perhaps is what happened here (but who are we to make massive assumptions about the mind of another human being we don't even know??).

For context: The Joker in [I]The Dark Knight[/I] has psychopathic personality traits, he lacks the emotional connection to the world to really care about anything and therefor can act very chaotically without seeming to worry about himself or others. Even when caught, he laughs manically.

Tommy (Joe Pesci) in [I]Goodfellas[/I] has psychotic episodes, acting wildly and aggressively over nothings with little regard [I]at the time[/I] (this distinction is important) for the reality of his actions. He appears to be a psychopath, but it is much more likely he is a sociopath (psychopathy is thought to be pathological, while sociopathy is environmental/learned behaviour, eg: a personality disorder).
