Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal will wield the sword of Zorro in a futuristic version of the classic story about the masked crusader, according to the film industry magazine Variety. Unlike previous versions, the new movie, “Zorro Reborn,” will not take place during Spanish colonial times in California or Mexico. Instead, the actor who starred in “The Motorcycle Diaries” will bring Zorro to life in a post-apocalyptic wasteland in a script written by Glenn Gers and produced by 20th Century Fox. Garcia Bernal would play “a masked vigilante bent on revenge,” Variety reported. The movie still lacks a director. The various Zorro movies traditionally have told the story of Diego de la Vega, a Spanish nobleman who defended lowly residents of colonial California from tyrannical authorities. One of the most recent versions of the story was the 2005 film “The Legend of Zorro,” starring Antonio Banderas. Another version based on the novel by Isabel Allende, “Zorro: The Legend Begins,” is currently being produced by Sony studios.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/17/zorro-to-crusade-again-in-futuristic-film/ Not gonna lie, Zorro in a post-apocalyptic future sounds fucking horrible.
worst idea I've heard in a while
Zorro was good. Mad Max was ok. This love-child will be an abomination.
Zorro...in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I'm sorry, what? That's the most retarded idea I have heard in years.
I'd prefer a proper sci-fi future with lasers and shit, post apocalyptic is getting a bit stale.
Futuristic Zorro has already been proven to be awesome:
Will it be a laser sword?
But zorro is a historic batman, it makes no sense to put him in future.
Create something original for fuck's sake rather than continue to rape another dead horse!
This just in- Hollywood has a terrible idea to revive an old franchise. Film at 11.
Would have been a better idea if by futuristic they mean cyberpunk-ish futuristic ala Blade Runner and not Post-apocalyptic. Also wouldn't mind even maybe just a Steampunk-ish/Dieselpunk-ish era kind of thing.
Couldn't they made use of the current 'war of drugs' for a modern Zorro? Oh wait no bad idea
Checked Glenn Gers imdb, he hasn't written anything good. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1020896/ Gonna go ahead and say this film has no chance of being any good.
I hate to have such an amazing film like the Motorcycle Diaries associated with something like this.
reminds me of this
Oh god Zorro. Extreme nostalgia. This intro was badass.
Even though it sounds kind of odd, one should only judge once the movie is out and see how badly it's butchered. If the acting turns out wooden and the characters aren't believeable, then we'll have plenty of reason.
May as well take Luke Skywalker and put him in a setting akin Jurrassic park.
Fuck you guys, this sounds badass! Can't wait to see Zorro slice some mutant cannibalistic zombie bad guys up. Maybe I'm a bit biased though... my dog's name is Zorro. xD
ouch my inner child just died.
Isn't V For Vendetta already almost a futuristic Zorro? He runs around in a black cape, uses slashing weapons, and has a simple letter as a symbol
If I'm right about this, this will end up something out of Fist Of The North Star.
If it's kind of like that Generation Z cartoon but better, it could work

If it wasn't post-apocalyptic it might be cool. Of course the whole point of this movie will be to whore out special effects and 3D so it won't be anything worth while.
Just ike Jason the hockey-mask killer in Space, it was complete shit.

Oh jesus I remember I would watch Zorro when Disney Channel had "the vault" late at night.
