https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/28/us/politics/trump-gun-control.html
President Trump on Wednesday repeatedly embraced a series of gun control measures, telling a group of lawmakers at the White House to pursue bills that have been opposed for years by the vast majority of the Republican Party and the National Rifle Association. In a remarkable televised meeting in the Cabinet Room, the president appeared to stun giddy Democrats and stone-faced Republicans by calling for comprehensive gun control that would expand background checks, keep guns from the mentally ill, secure schools and restrict gun sales from some young adults. To the surprise of many in the room, Mr. Trump urged the bipartisan lawmakers to start with a bipartisan bill put forward in 2013 by Senators Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, a Democrat, and Patrick J. Toomey of Pennsylvania, a Republican. That bill died months after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., after intense Republican opposition. Mr. Trump repeatedly suggested that the dynamics had changed, in part because of his leadership in the White House, a sentiment that the Democrats in the room readily agreed with as they saw the president supporting their ideas.
President RNG
How will Trump's cult spin this?
wtf i love trump now
I wonder how people like the NRA and The_Donald feel about this, since they believe in the whole paid actors thing.
Maybe he knows he's doomed and wants to see how low his approval can go before he's arrested?
Didn’t that “bipartisan” bill from ‘13 mimic an even more retarded AWB? And suddenly Trump is for it?
I'm thinking he's probably trying to divert attention from something else. He always says something controversial whenever a big drop in the investigation comes/is coming.
I'm thinking he's probably trying to divert attention from something else.
Didn’t that “bipartisan” bill from ‘13 mimic an even more retarded AWB? And suddenly Trump is for it?
congress.gov isn't super pleasant to navigate so i'm having a hard time finding the exact proposal but according to this press release on the subject https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/files/2013/04/Manchin-Toomey.pdf it explicitly was not an AWB, apparently even including language explicitly prohibiting a national registry. if anyone can find the full text that would be helpful. [editline]ed[/editline] if i'm reading this and its attached bill correctly, the bill itself was not an AWB, and neither was the amendment proposed by toomey & manchin, but there WAS an amendment proposal that was a full on AWB introduced by feinstein and a bunch of other people.
I'm thinking he's probably trying to divert attention from something else. He always says something controversial whenever a big drop in the investigation comes/is coming.
Trump tends to agree with whomever spoke with him last.

I can’t trust congressmen as far as I can throw them
Didn’t that “bipartisan” bill from ‘13 mimic an even more retarded AWB? And suddenly Trump is for it?
No, that was Feinsteins bill that the Democrats voted against. The Machin-Toomey compromise bill would have marginally increased background check effectiveness. AHAHAH look at her fucking face. I want to know who feinstein is smirking at because shes thinking "Yeah guess what bitches, we figured out the whole trump is a baby thing wasn't just shit talking, we can literally say whatever we want and hes gonna support it because we're in the fucking room and hes a coward before anything." (...or this could be kusher and ivanka out of the picture and kelly taking his private time with the president during the briefings to get him to think he could still do stuff worth being remembered for, even trump said on tv today "I think its time a president stepped up". )
I wonder how people like the NRA and The_Donald feel about this, since they believe in the whole paid actors thing.
It will never be posted on any site they frequent, as per the rules of a propaganda machine.
It will never be posted on any site they frequent, as per the rules of a propaganda machine.
There is actually a sticky on t_d and predictably its a bloodbath.
I'm thinking he's probably trying to divert attention from something else. He always says something controversial whenever a big drop in the investigation comes/is coming.
I'm starting to wonder if Trump isn't even trying to divert attention away from stuff intentionally. I honestly think he's just so prone to scandal and general stupidity that it would be impossible for a big reveal to happen on a day where Trump didn't screw up somehow.
hey Republicans, maybe when the democrats say he has no respect for law and order, we might actually be right. He's just as willing to waive due process as he is to waive enviromental reviews, he has no patience for anything, having lived his life with buttons to summon McDonald's for him decades before ubereats was created
I'm going to wait a day before I develop an opinion on this, just in case Trump does a 540 on it and tomorrow tries to repeal the NFA.
Is this the start of a swing to improve his ratings? Is this a distraction from something else? Is he senile? Only time will tell.
“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence. “Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.
:wow:
Maybe he is trying to lower the number of weapons in the country for when he decides to go full dictatorship.
:wow:
Wonder what the "Obama wants to take our guns!" crowd thinks of this
:wow:
Sounds just like Feinstein
Wonder what the "Obama wants to take our guns!" crowd thinks of this
"H-he's obviously just trolling the Democrats! And even if he does take them, it's 4 dimensional chess - because he's uh... going to take all our old crappy guns and mint us brand new, professional, amazing (the best folks everyone says it) clean-coal rifles."
Wonder what the "Obama wants to take our guns!" crowd thinks of this
hilariously, he's coming out in support of the Obama-era Sandy Hook gun bill its like his mission to spite obama is so important to him that he'll try and do stuff that Obama wanted to do but couldn't, just to spite him
There is actually a sticky on t_d and predictably its a bloodbath.
I went to t_d or probably the first time in a while, these were the first posts on the sticky thread (these are thumbnails) [t]https://i.imgur.com/LkGCs5k.png[/t] And look at the front page [t]https://i.imgur.com/5txDPVq.png[/t] That SCOTUS thread caption :unimpressed:
Is this the start of a swing to improve his ratings? Is this a distraction from something else? Is he senile? Only time will tell.
I mean this is an authoritarian move. Trump likes to posture and pretend that he's an authoritarian strongman. this isn't totally out of character.
I had a look at t_d. They're confused.
The posts in the thread really don't matter. It's in new mode, you could post copy pastas and as long as automod doesn't delete it then it would be at the top. You have to sort by best or top to get the usual reddit system.
Yeah, I just thought these particular ones were funny and wanted to share it lol. Sort of a microcosm of t_d.
I had a look at t_d. They're confused. :wideeye:
Those are somethng special. Those last two are really something, I don't know if the guy in the seconds to last is talking about cooperating with dems in general or just gun law :v: But that guy in the last, is t_d hiding all the democrat wins over 2017 at the state level or is it just denial?

The gaslighting is coming from inside the house. What I love about the second to last one is the guy's post is: Line 1 - enforce the status quo, do not add new laws, enforce what is on the books and we'll be fine Line 2 - repeal a whole bunch of existing laws and add a new law Cognitive dissonance in action, kids.
