We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you, so we are working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS.
So much hype. My PC is a toaster so I'd love to play a lot of my Steam games on a console(?)
Stay tuned, though - we have some more to say very soon on the topic of input.
So, the last announcement is the controller?
Wait so do PC gamers have to hate consoles AND this? Or is this excluded because it's a pc. Edit : Sorry i was just trying to make a joke :( Didn't mean anything by it.

We're gonna need a conference guys. edit : Speaking of which, what defines a console?
I don't think we just hate consoles for no reason. Either way this doesn't really count since it's upgradable.

It isn't quite a console in the same way, it's not a closed platform (that we know) and should support more inputs than a controller.

I'd like to think of this at the moment, as a hardware development kit (In its beta stage). Once beta testing is done it seems to cover the same goals/promises that Ouya attempted, albeit with easier to upgrade/better hardware

If the end-user can install their own software it's a PC.
So, the last announcement is the controller?
Bundled with Occulus Rift? Doubtful, but I'd die happy.
Likely due to the fact that the steam box will not be a proprietary system it will be upgraded every year or so with the latest hardware.

nice one
Seeing as there's multiple versions of the Steambox, im guessing the final announcement 0+0 will detail each version and what you can do with them.

So quick question. Assuming SteamOS is heavily optimized, what benefits would a SteamBox have over a cheap second-hand PC with SteamOS installed on it? Case and HDMI ports and stuff of course, but would there be a notable performance decrease with the streaming? Most of the AAA titles you may want to play on your TV are not for Linux anyway. Still seems like a good idea, though. Get people using Big Picture and push support for controllers on PC and stuff.
We disapprove of consoles because they cannot be upgraded, slowing down the graphics development and making devs too lazy to properly port a game.
nothing is making a developer lazy but the developers. whenever people blame consoles for not seeing an advancement in graphics effects i'm slightly disappointed why don't developers make games for pc and port to console instead? so they can upgrade teh grafix on pc while on console it's "meh"? oh, it's because the developers are lazy, not because the console makes them lazy (that doesn't even make any sense) they see that they have more of a chance to make money on console so they make game there, and port it to other platforms cheap with slightly higher quality texture resolution and higher polygon count the only people that really actually dont do this is valve (but they aren't known for having visually stunning games) and crytek
So, the last announcement is the controller?
No it's going to be that occulus-rift-style headset that Valve has been working on for a while now.
No it's going to be that occulus-rift-style headset that Valve has been working on for a while now.
I'm putting my money on a new game honestly.
No it's going to be that occulus-rift-style headset that Valve has been working on for a while now.
I honestly hope not. If Valve is going to be competing with anything, I really don't want it to be with things like the Oculus Rift.
Clearly a biohazard symbol. When the final counter finishes all computers with steam installed will release deadly deadly anthrax.
