Also you can't really implement keys / cosmetics / micro-transactions into half life 3. Valve learned this from the Portal 2 shop
I do wish that Valve's pioneering success would stop, just for a bit. Successful and clever though they are, I don't care sometimes. As someone who is interested in literature, I just want the current HL 2 story arc wrapped up. I don't need a full sequel, just an adequate Episode 3 will do me.
woah gabe looks old
Did he shave?
Also you can't really implement keys / cosmetics / micro-transactions into half life 3. Valve learned this from the Portal 2 shop
If they have another deathmatch to go with it, which you could use in the single player, it'll be tried, cosmetic will probably be in the single player only. To comment on this there are people in the company that will only work what's voted the most popular because it'll give them the most paycheck. Maybe HL3 is a thing now so the most valued bonus will go there.
Every time i think that Valve can't work on non half life related stuff anymore, they always come up with something.
That's his evil twin Sabe
"I'm not Gabe! I'm my original character, Babe!"
I know they're a little unpleased when they made HL2 episodic, but Episode Three needs to come first before Half-Life 3 (hopefully not selling the original franchise to somebody else, like Interplay selling Fallout to Bethesda).

It'd be the same game except an episode would wrap up way faster.
We'll get Episode 3 eventually, we just have to be very patient.
Thing is that although this is true, will it really satisfy the 6 (coming up to 7) year wait? Will it really be THAT good of a game?
What would be the difference between releasing episode 3 and half life 3? It'd be the same game except an episode would wrap up way faster.
I've read that HL2 was originally a very long game, but had to cut many things that'd become uninteresting or wouldn't be heard nor spoken of again..., but why does Fallout contain children and HL2 does not (besides from mods where kids are mortal like in the original US releases)? The Suppresion field preventing sexual reproductions wouldn't affect the living kids, I hope.
What would be the difference between releasing episode 3 and half life 3? And even then, would you really complain if those 4 hours provided a very good experience?
Thing is that although this is true, will it really satisfy the 6 (coming up to 7) year wait? Will it really be THAT good of a game?
Well they've probably not been working on it for 7 years straight. Though Valve won't want to release something that isn't entertaining, so they're probably working very hard to make sure that Episode 3 is very good.
What would be the difference between releasing episode 3 and half life 3? It'd be the same game except an episode would wrap up way faster.
It's either a silly semiotic argument that the community gets itself into every few weeks or a misunderstanding of how Valve would proceed. Of course they are going to wrap up the HL2 story arc in the next Half-Life game. To not do so wouldn't be within Valve's code of community service. Whether it's called Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 is entirely up to Valve and would have no bearing on the length or content of the game itself. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] I thought it was actually Gabe for a second there. Pretty great casting but it was the lack of harry potter glasses that gave it away
What would be the difference between releasing episode 3 and half life 3? It'd be the same game except an episode would wrap up way faster.
The next game being called Half life 3 doesn't make much sense. The Half life 2 story Arc still isn't finished, Half life 3 will be used for a completely new setting and story. As long as the next game continues on from EP2, it will have Half life 2 in the name. People seem to think that it has to be a short game unless it's called Half life 3.
I told myself few days ago if a thread about Valve and Ep3 appears I'll post a short rant. I really think the longer they take to release Ep3 the worst it gets. They ended Ep2 on a cliffhanger and most of the gaming community loved this sequel. There was no reason to take 6 years. A lot of us mainly wanted to see the end to HL2 plot. Now, and this is mostly my opinion, with the release of other games, we expect they will improve graphics, gameplay and have great plot on top. And if it's true Valve employees can join other teams if they find them interesting and not many of them want to work on Ep3 because of the pressure who knows when we'll get it.
Gabe has pretty consistently been referring to the next half life game as 'Half Life 3' as opposed to 'Episode 3' for a number of years now. So I think its reasonable to assume that's what it'll be called.

I haven't seen him call it that without the person asking him a question saying it first.
We'll get Episode 3 eventually, we just have to be very patient.
Bullshit, a mere third episode won't cut it.
I've read that HL2 was originally a very long game, but had to cut many things that'd become uninteresting or wouldn't be heard nor spoken of again..., but why does Fallout contain children and HL2 does not (besides from mods where kids are mortal like in the original US releases)? Any kid would've grown up by then. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline]
Bullshit, a mere third episode won't cut it.
Why doesnt anyone get that at this point its just a fucking NAME. It doesnt actually MEAN anything.
Why doesnt anyone get that at this point its just a fucking NAME. It doesnt actually MEAN anything.
Episode 3 would imply an episode similar to the episodes 1 and 2 after HL2.. which definitely wouldn't cut it after all these years.
Episode 3 would imply an episode similar to the episodes 1 and 2 after HL2.. which definitely wouldn't cut it after all these years.
No. It doesnt. Its a name.
guys, I don't think that's really gabe. im not sure though
I think they really need to stop with the "It's a SECRET!" thing at this point, a twitter message saying "yeah we're working on it, ok?" or something would probably suffice since nobody cares if it will be a suprise or not. It's like playing hide and seek with someone who just fucks off to a restraunt while you're still looking for them in the house.
Also you can't really implement keys / cosmetics / micro-transactions into half life 3. Valve learned this from the Portal 2 shop
Didn't Valve say that their games wouldn't be only singleplayer anymore? That would imply that "Half-Life 3 Deathmatch" will probably come with the Half-Life 3 client. So yeah, it actually could work.

So yeah, it actually could work.
No, it was said it would probably be their last completely single player game, and that they would be introducing something called "single player plus", which probably has something to do with advanced AI, else it would probably just be called a new co-op mode. It had nothing to do with DM-esque add-ons, because the subject at hand was Portal 2 and it was referred to as single-player. Which really confirms co-op is NOT "single player plus".
I know this is a joke video but how is Portal 2 any more of an "original game" than CSGO and DOTA2? They're all sequels to either mods or student projects that Valve bought up

The last game where you just don't meet any other human forms (as Chell meets robotic froms only).
I know this is a joke video but how is Portal 2 any more of an "original game" than CSGO and DOTA2? They're all sequels to either mods or student projects that Valve bought up
CS GO wasn't bought up. They did hire the original creators of the Counter Strike mod back in 1999/2000 and hired Icefrog who made Dota what it is today. Portal and Portal 2 are created by Valve while they hired the students who made Narbacular Drop and Tag: The Power of Paint in 2006 and 2010. The Portal games were created by around 60 devs by Valve and are in fact their creations. They just take some gameplay elements from Narbacular Drop and Tag. The students and original creators became full Valve devs. Sure, they are not 100% thought up by the Valve devs, but they did in fact develop them.
This video is so fake, selling others games on steam? Ha. It is not like you could buy single game from steam store because of their awful servers. All what you can get from steam store is
There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.
with little bit of hint of
An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed. Please contact Steam Support.
Origin is even better than this with their non existing catalog of games.
