I really want to give the vive a try. Any FP'ers try it and and have some comments?
Holy shit this matrix part was crazy.
I was going to say this would be disorienting, but then I remember VR = depth perception so this actully might be really cool. Of course this looks like something that would wear off after some time if you're not really an artist.
I can see myself spending hours using this holy shit.
Funny how I'm pretty much just as excited for all this artsy stuff as I am for the games.

This guy just "got" perspective, because he's drawing in 3D space. If you've ever tried to draw with perspective, you'll know how difficult that is. It seems entirely natural here. It's drawing, but it's sculptural. That's something 3D design tools have always tried to do, but none of them have had the advantage of VR.
I'd really like to see this sort of thing used for 3D sculpting.
integrate that thing with gmod tool_gun in left hand + phys_gun in right = party time
integrate that thing with gmod tool_gun in left hand + phys_gun in right = party time
I like the palette idea, the left hand opens the Q menu, and the right hand is your weapon/toolgun.
Deviantart VR appreciation station when?
I really want to give the vive a try. Still waiting for it to launch or for a show nearby which I can get to. Tested has decent coverage for the Vive though if you're willing to sit through the pretty technical discussion at times. This will be even better when you don't have to hold controllers and can freely use each finger in the application.
They have the coolest job.
Dungeons and Dragons with this. Fuck me, that'd be interesting. I cannot wait to watch tons of photoshop artist getting involved with this.
I'd really like to see this sort of thing used for 3D sculpting.
this would definitely be a more feasible way of using the tool. start off with an big ol block and slowly remove bits of it. makes the perspective also easier to understand.
oh man this gets me excited, i'm having a tough time deciding between the rift and the vive, i'll have to wait until both have been out and used to decided which one to get
This shit looks so cool. I want one.

in my opinion the oculus touch controllers looks a bit awkward and clunky
I got to try this demo out for a few minutes and it was really fun. I only had enough time to learn the controls, use some neat brush effects, draw a cube, and a sphere, but it was great. Controls were easy to grasp and were intuitive. Being able to walk around your drawing in 3D space was neato. I also got to play that cooking simulator, which all I did was throw shit around, tried juggling the knives, failed, so I tried committing sudoku, which probably weirded out the guide that was watching me. I wear glasses but even though they said glasses can be used, I didn't use them in the Vive because I was afraid of it interfering. Everything was blurry so I can't comment on the Screen Door Effect. Overall, it felt pretty real and natural. Though I nearly tripped on the cables a few times so I spent the entire time trying to be aware of them instead of being fully immersed. I only played for 15 minutes, but it was well worth it.
This will be even better when you don't have to hold controllers and can freely use each finger in the application.
I want tactile sensors so you can 'hold' a paintbrush and literally feel it in your hands.
