Target: $7,000 USD
Deadline: Nov 7, 2013 - Dec 7, 2013
Product: A free sound library composed of handling and firing weapons alongside a video guide on how the weapons work for use in sound design.
Goal: To provide, in 192kHz with a seven microphone setup and high-quality field recorders, a library of various gun foley sounds ranging from safety toggling, suppressor mounting, to firing of weapons for free. The backers also hope to include a guide on how to best use the sounds for those without firearms experience.
These guys seem to know what they are doing, the price is cheap and the sound quality shown in the trailer looks pretty nice. They also don't have any real stretch goals or reward tiers here, which is kind of a relief, and you don't have to worry about "reward creep" (investing so much in gear that the actual profit is minimal).
Just wanted to make people aware if they wanted to contribute.

This is a pretty cool idea. Initiatives like this could actually shake up the world of stock sounds in films and I'd stop noticing sounds from HL2 appearing elsewhere :v:
This is a neat idea, multi-purpose sound caches like PE-23 Staged Effects or 6K Hollywood can actually be severely limited in this sort of thing, and I used to make semi-professional action shorts that proved to be difficult post-processing because there was never the particular sound I needed.
A big library made for this precise thing would be a godsend, especially on Creative Commons
Hey, maybe now guns in Call of Duty will sound realistic if they can get them for free.

no, because cod kiddies don't want to hear what suppressors (sorry, I mean silencers) actually sound like and if they used real sounds at real levels you probably wouldn't be able to hear the 10 year old kid on the other team insulting A. Your sexual orientation and B. Your mother
so yeah, no.
Neat project - hopefully they could seek additional weapons for recording in the future (assuming they get the 7k)
Heh, I just downloaded a few Source/STALKER mods and took all the sounds from those.
