Towleroad has posted several items over the past year about the suicides in the Anoka-Hennepin school district and its position that teachers take a "neutral" stance on sexual orientation which forces them to ignore anti-gay bullying.
There have been seven student suicides in the school district in less than two years and now the school district is part of a federal investigation and civil rights groups, The National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Southern Poverty Law Center, are threatening a lawsuit.
CNN reports:
The Justice Department together with the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights are looking into "allegations of harassment and discrimination in the Anoka-Hennepin School District based on sex, including peer-on-peer harassment based on not conforming to gender stereotypes," according to a district memo provided exclusively to CNN.
I wonder when people actually shut the fuck up about this gay-not-gay subject.
Don't see any other way to go about it, unless you want to endlessly debate about it. Which results in harassing, bullying hell even suicides apparently. And it's not good.

Like racism, the only way to get rid of it is not to talk about it.

or how about make the schools not retarded and have them deal with the fucking bullying problem.
Well they wouldn't have to deal with any bullying problems if these bullies realized it's up to no good to bully gay people for who they really are.
Well they wouldn't have to deal with any bullying problems if these bullies realized it's up to no good to bully gay people for who they really are.
yes good plan. lets ignore the problem and just wait for the douchebags to realize they are wrong :downs:
Watching the video, the neutrality policy seems alright. The teachers just have to make it a bullying issue, not a homosexual issue. The next time they see a child getting bullied they should just stop it and punish the bully.
They're just afraid that the fucking retard Bachman-type people will pull their kids out saying that the school openly protects gays.

Hmm yeah.. But either way, I don't see the end to this.
Well they wouldn't have to deal with any bullying problems if these bullies realized it's up to no good to bully gay people for who they really are.
if you just don't mention the issue and never confront the bullies about the real reason behind the bullying then i doubt they'd ever realise they are wrong, they'll just learn to not get caught
Hmm yeah.. But either way, I don't see the end to this.
how about they punish bullys for being dicks and ignore what the kid is getting bullied over? duh

no not really

Um bullying is kind of the opposite. If you leave it unchecked it fucking spreads.

Because pretending a problem doesn't exist effectively solves it.
This is interesting since I grew up in Eden Prairie (also Hennepin County). And if high school hasn't changed much and I'm sure it hasn't, making fun of gays is quite common and the school does little to stop it. That's the way it is in many places. They need to focus on bigger pictures too, not just a single school.
how about they punish bullys for being dicks and ignore what the kid is getting bullied over? duh
yeah sure punish them.
but now i don't see the end to punishing people
...That's the point. Ignore bullying, teach kids that being gay is wrong, and hopefully all the gays will shoot themselves. The plan according to Bachmann. :downs:
Yeah most these suicides were at my high school. I knew every kid too. It was fucking difficult..and sad. But the school wasn't doing shit about any of it. They wouldn't even let us wear "RIP Justin" ect shirts.

Did anyone tell these motherfuckers (the staff) that they're being cunts? It's like this everywhere pretty much.
Do teachers not have the power to do shit about this or are they just stupid?
Ahh the retarded underbelly of america.

so pretty, such a shame ;(

makes you wonder how serious the bullying was to make them even consider ending their lives and actually doing it.
It's sad that LGBT teens get so horribly bullied in American high schools.

Why are you still at that school, get transferred out if you can.
Like racism, the only way to get rid of it is not to talk about it.
Hahaha are you fucking kidding? I wonder what the history books would be like if they were written by you
"Martin Luther King Jr. famously confronted racism in the 1960s by not uttering a single word. He simply ignored the issue completely and eventually everyone realised that black people had rights too."

Push the class-action lawsuit and get you and your friends involved!

I believe that's reason for expulsion there, standing up for gay rights.
On the grounds of "You're directly violating school policy"
It wasn't just the bullies that made these kids kill themselves, anyone who contemplated suicide as a good choice is already screwed up in the head. Suicide is a very sad thing, yet very selfish at the same time.

just a heads up, ignoring things don't t make them go away.
You're disgusting.
The only thing wrong with these kids is people picking on them, so they kill themselves :downs:

How the fuck does that work?

If I lived in one of the most anti gay and bible belt places in America, I'd consider it too. It's disgusting that these kids have to deal with this shit and saying their selfish because they can't get away from it all is just insensitive.
