• Liberal party of Australia considering their own Internet filter.
The Abbott government is considering a major crackdown on online piracy, including forcing internet service providers to block websites that allow users to illegally stream or download movies, music and television shows. The federal government is also considering implementing a "graduated response scheme" that could lead to consumers' internet accounts being temporarily suspended if they ignore notifications to stop downloading illegal content. If implemented, the reforms could see popular file sharing sites such as The Pirate Bay blocked by some internet service providers.
All I can say is, good fucking luck! Really hope ISPs here do what they did last time something similar was proposed and tell them to piss off. The government tried a filter once before and failed. [editline]14th February 2014[/editline] Hell they brought it up at the election and promptly retracted it because everyone hated the idea, if it goes through now I'll be pissed.
If they do manage to bring any filter in, someone will find a way around it.
That's the problem with it, it's ineffective. Basically a waste of money and it has the possibility of slowing the internet down in some areas afaik. If they have room to install filters that may increase congestion then they might as well fess up to the fact that data caps are also bogus and that our networks can handle unlimited like everywhere else in the world. I'd welcome it if that meant bringing NBN back to the premises.
Real sick of your shit Abbott. It's pretty optimistic but I really hope he doesn't serve a full term.
Real sick of your shit Abbott. It's pretty optimistic but I really hope he doesn't serve a full term.
We can only hope. Maybe he'll get kicked out and replaced with Turnbull
They trailed this shit in 07 and it crashed and burned, 87% speed slowed, shit that wasn't meant to be blocked was blocked, there were so many workarounds it made the whole thing obsolote And iiNet and a few big companies told the Government upfront they would refuse putting a filter on their customers internet, I think Telstra and Optus slightly backed them a little Jesus can't parents just install netnanny or something instead of wanting the Government doing their dirty work
First canning the NBN and now trying to force a filter on after the last one already failed.
they didnt can the nbn
Shit if movies and tv shows weren't so expensive and delayed here we wouldn't need to pirate.
So first they scrap the NBN, now they are talking about selling off NBN co (Yay Telstra 2.0) and a whole bunch of GBEs, and now internet filters, as if we needed a reason to have even slower internet and get picked on by other countries... Is this revenge for our jokes about Brittan?
they didnt can the nbn
They just scaled it back to the point where it's useless, and even then they can't keep up.
Wait, what? I don't know much about Australian politics, but the liberal party is the one considering this? That seems a little backwards. Not that I'm one to talk with good ol' backwards USA, where liberalism is only slightly less conservative than conservatism.
Oh, great.
Our Liberal party = your Republican party, just less crazy obviously.
The federal government is also considering implementing a "graduated response scheme" that could lead to consumers' internet accounts being temporarily suspended if they ignore notifications to stop downloading illegal content.
That I see no problem with, though.
That I see no problem with, though.
This was battled out in court with iiNet regarding customers downloading illegal content, they won with the argument they aren't responsible for what their customers do so tbh that wouldn't work very well
Yeah, under the law ISPs aren't responsible for their customers actions, so now the copyright groups want the government to change the law to force them to be (And they paid enough to get them to listen)
This was battled out in court with iiNet regarding customers downloading illegal content, they won with the argument they aren't responsible for what their customers do so tbh that wouldn't work very well
Hm, most ISPs here do that
Can't wait to move to Sweden and get some unfiltered European porn.
It failed once before under labor, I don't see how this will be different. They'll soon realize it's a shitty idea, unless someone is giving them a great incentive to keep at it...
This filter system can only end with the Abbott Government wasting a lot of taxpayers money that could have been used for other, more important things.

I can see Abbott being booted in the next Election, anyway now we will have to use money, augh. But seriously this can go, no, it will go wrong.
One of several political stunts that happened today. Just like any other day. Whoop de doo diddly whee wow ha yay.
Remember when filtering the internet was just a dictatorship tactic? The media soon changed their tune.
I can see Abbott being booted in the next Election, anyway now we will have to use money, augh. Also while I was looking at Wikipedia to find the date, I found this, the top is from 11-Feb-2014, and the bottom is around the Election. You can see how people are changing their mind. [t]http://i.imgur.com/tL10tFM.png[/t] Same with this one Also what is the NBN? My mind keeps going to the channel that is called NBN.
Eesh, I really hope this is not put into effect.
Less internet filter and more internet fibre.
