If a player goes all-in, any other players that continue to bet are betting against each other instead of against the table - because the all-in player cannot continue to raise or bet due to having all funds in the pot, a side pot is created between the other players. When players show their hands, the highest hand overall will be paid out, and the highest hand in the sidepot will also be paid out.
That's how I think it works anyway

If someone bets more than you have, and you want to bet; then you will only win as much as you have.
