• Americans keep buying a lot of pizza, while the restaurant industry is otherwise stagnant
In a year when U.S. restaurant chains have bemoaned sluggish traffic, competition from supermarket food and even the chilling effect of the presidential election, one area has continued to thrive: pizza. Shares of Domino’s Pizza Inc. are up 45 percent this year. And Papa John’s International Inc. is up more than 60 percent. Compare that with a 3.4 percent gain for the Standard & Poor’s 500 Restaurants Index. The reasons are pizza is cheap, fast and increasingly easy to get -- thanks to user-friendly mobile-ordering apps and technology that lets diners order from Facebook, Twitter and Apple TV. That’s helped insulate pizza chains from a shift away from eating out. “Restaurants that have succeeded this year have been the ones that have addressed convenience,” says Stephen Anderson, an analyst at Maxim Group LLC. “The pizza chains have done a good job at this.”
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-12-21/pizza-is-king-during-u-s-restaurant-industry-s-2016-slump praise papa john
That's no pizza that americans are buying, is just a brick disguised asa pizza.
you can take your delicately seasoned crackers and get the hell out. this is america, if there's not a whole pig on my pizza i'm sending it the fuck back
That's no pizza that americans are buying, is just a brick disguised asa pizza.
im not a pizza guy, but isnt the problem more often that it's too greasy, not too dry?
papa and dominos are pretty good pizza hut is pretty garbage tho
it's the opposite in nz tbh though both companies tomato sauce for their base suck shit also my friend almost died and contracted a bowel disease from eating pretty much nothing but these brands of pizza for a year :v: fuck that noise
I can't spend less than $5 on fast food anymore as prices keep going up. But I can walk in to Little Ceasers and walk out in just over minute and get whole pizza for $5, faster and cheaper than most drive-throughs. It may taste like cardboard, but I can make 2 or 3 meals out of that pizza. Even better tasting pizzas like Papa John's and Pizza Hut Supreme pizzas are cheaper than most sit down restaurants for a single person, and you can share a pizza.
Dominos/Pizza hut prices in the UK are eye-gouging even with the discounts/offers they do in comparison to local places. At full price they are double/triple what you'd usually pay in a local place. I'm not sure it's common for towns in the US to have a lot of locally run takeouts, for example I live fairly out the way of a city and I have 62 takeaways of every variety to order from online right now, a lot of those pizza places outprice Domino's and are far nicer imo.
The only trash you have left with pizza is the box, and its hot food that is convenient and somewhat filling to order. Cooking your own meals is cheaper but you have the logistics of grocery store travel, dinner ware inventory, kitchen use (if sharing apartments or houses) ect. Restaurants charge a crap load of money for food that is relatively easy to cook. Every single restaurant I've been to serves some form of Chicken, Beef, and Salads. There's barely anything unique about the food served in restaurants unless you're willing to spend $35 on a fancy meal for yourself. Then there's tipping politics and just to avoid that subject alone is worth cooking at home.

If you want one for yourself then go in-store before 4pm and you can get a large for £5

Pizza good, man. Good and cheap.
As someone who's trying to work more on my diet and meal planning (to gain weight even, not lose it) it's hard to let go of Pizza. So fucking awful for you, but tastes so good.
It's cheap and if you're eating by yourself you can have food for days. Also, they deliver. Also, pizza is the party food. Of any kind. Need to feed a group of people quickly? Pizza is the go to. Of course they're immune. I hope other places start to work delivery in to their system as well. It'd be nice to have more than Chinese and pizza when people want to get food but don't actually want to go anywhere.
If restaurants want to start delivering, I'll start buying from them. As it currently stands, the only time I go to a restaurant is when I'm on a date. Otherwise, I'll cook at home, order a sandwich, wings, or pizza from a pizza place, or get some McDonalds or something on the way to somewhere else. [editline]a[/editline] I honestly can't be assed to sit in a restaurant for 10 min while they cook my food and another 10 min or more of eating
this is the true impact of pizzagate
The Papa John mansion grows and grows. I think some of the things that makes pizza such a big seller too is that it can be easily adapted to any region using toppings, and the fact it's easy to make a social food,I can't think of any other food you order for a casual get together as often as pizza.
Kinda wild how many people in their late teens - early 30s can't afford to go out to restaurants anymore. Where's the "Millenials are Killing the Restaurant Industry" headline.
I've practically been living on pizza and home cooking for the past 4 months (with a side of chinese takeout at around 8.95$ for a platter of noodles, meat and tofu), pizza is great for when I'm busy studying and have no time [or patience] to cook

Papa John's remains attractive to other food I can order because they are constantly having 50% off deals and shit. That and I love their pepperoncini peppers.
I used to order pizza from Domino's pretty often until the german branch went full retard and bought off another pizza chain called Joey's Pizza. They replaced their pizza dough, sauce, menu, etc with the ones from Joey's which taste mediocre at best.
Pizza is essentially the cocaine of the food world, but reasonably priced.
I'm not surprised at all, one of the best restaurant meals I've had in a while was from a New York-style pizza joint near my college dorm. Split a massive 21-inch pepperoni pie with the other members of my college's Cybersecurity Club, and it was GOOD. In addition, Pizza's like the king of comfort foods- cheap, with bread/cheese/tomato sauce or in come cases garlic sauce/toppings, and it's served hot- and is edible without utensils.

Jesus christ, how much does that cost?
21 inches? Jesus christ, how much does that cost?
There's a place near me that sells a 34 inch "King Kong" pizza for $30.
The maybe diners in my local area should stop playing shitty modern country music and pop songs then. I'm not even joking when I say that even dentist waiting rooms have better taste in music in the midwest.
