Live in Germany? I got good news for ya.
ZeniMax, the now-owners of the Doom franchise, had the Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien (Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons) retest Doom 1 and 2 and the BPjM reconsidered the indexing of Doom, which is now no longer indexed.
After 17 years, Doom and Doom2 are no longer put on the index of the
"Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien". So from now on, it is legal to sell, buy and play Doom and Doom2 in Germany.
Here's the link to a 16-page-pdf (german) which explains the details...

"Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons"
And they call the UK a Nanny State.
Well that was unexpected.
Bit late don't you think Germany?
Baby steps, Germany, baby steps. Maybe by 2148, Germany will stop scrubbing all mention that the Nazis ever existed.
Now do Team Fortress 2 :v:
I imagine they're going to get rid of Doom 2's Wolfenstein levels due to the Swastikas, etc.
And in 46 years you "might" play Dead Island in my country.
Well fuck you too Germany, I get the AT or UK version.
so i guess you Germans can expect all the gore-filled games to be legal after 20 years from their release
:v:
And if they block this piece of wonderful shit game Dead Island for online play on the xbox360, then I am going on a rampage and poop everywhere.

but you can already play any game legally if you're over 18.

this will never happen.
Fucking finally, I've been like waiting forever!
Ok, now next year we'll start working on crossing the street without having to hold someones hand.
Jesus the censorship over there just sounds patronising.
So proud of my country.
:suicide:
18 fucking years for this?
... After 17 years of censorship, they hope it's been worth the wait.
After eighteen fucking years it better be.
What's Doom 3's legality?
Didn't doom 2 have that hidden nazi level at the end?
Probably because by today's standards the graphics and gore seem like nothing.
Well now to fix this:

This is pretty much the definition of Nanny State. Damn Germany, I thought you were cool.

I thought everyone knew about Germany's censorship.
I thought everyone knew about Germany's censorship.
I did, I just didn't realize they had an entire Bureau to manage it.
VICTORY TO THE MASTER PC LEGION RACE
I'm okay with this. I was okay with the censorship too. It's not like you couldn't get the game if you wanted.
This probably prevented many dumb parents from buying their kids "some game" because I know how it is: parents don't care about the games here.
To be clear: I still think information is better than censorship.
It was always legal to own and play, it just wasn't allowed to be sold in stores.
I heard that there is a law in Germany, that you aren't allowed to ride a bike on roads before turning 14. Could be wrong.
