• Leo DiCaprio really wants an Oscar as he is set to play 24 different personalities in 'The Crowded R
Leonardo DiCaprio is getting closer to playing a role he's eyed for nearly 20 years — that of Billy Milligan, who was the first person to successfully use multiple personality disorder as a defense in a court of law. DiCaprio's Appian Way has come aboard to produce The Crowded Room with New Regency, while Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg have been hired to write the adapted script. Smilovic's credits include Lucky Number Slevin and Todd Phillips' upcoming Arms and the Dudes at Warner Bros. In addition to starring, DiCaprio will serve as a producer alongside Jennifer Davisson and Alexandra Milchan. Crowded Room further bolsters the relationship between DiCaprio and New Regency, who are currently in production together on The Revenant, director Alejandro G. Inarritu's follow-up to New Regency and Fox Searchlight's Oscar-winning Birdman. The Crowded Room has been set up at New Regency for years, but never got off the ground (the project has been dormant for a decade). Smilovic's hire gives renewed life to the adaptation of Daniel Keyes' nonfiction tome about Milligan, who had 24 personalities. DiCaprio has been interested in playing him stretching back to 1997. Published in 1981, Keyes' book chronicles Milligan's story, including his court trial in the late 1970s in Ohio after being charged with robbery and raping three women on the Ohio State University campus. In the preparation of his defense, Milligan — who died in December 2014 — was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. Pleading insanity, he and his lawyers contended that two of his alternate personalities committed the crimes without his knowledge. He was the first to use this defense, and the first to be acquitted for this reason. Milligan's various personalities included Adalana, a lesbian taking responsibility for the rapes; Ragen, a Yugoslavian communist who admitted to the robbery; and Arthur, an uptight Englishman. Hollywood has long wanted to bring Milligan's story to the big screen. High-profile directors who previously circled the project include James Cameron. DiCaprio is represented by LBI's Rick Yorn and Davisson. Smilovic is repped by CAA and Madhouse Entertainment, which also reps Katzberg.
[Source: THR] Very interesting role, that seemingly would suit more someone like Gary Oldman than DiCaprio, but he is a great choice nonetheless. Will it be more like Orphan Black, or Primal Fear?
dang it must suck to lose 24 times in one movie

You've seen him play Romeo Montague, then go on to play Calvin Candie. You know it would be a fucking great performance. Can't wait for this.
I wonder how many of them will scream.
I don't get the meme for Leonardo DiCapro deserving an oscar comes from. He isn't that particularly great to be honest.
He's a great actor I really hope he does win one, but I'm pretty sure if he does its a sign of the apocalypse
He's a great actor
He's a bit limited, much of his talent is limited to playing insane people and shouting. I mean, he's not bad, but he isn't great.
He's a bit limited, much of his talent is limited to playing insane people and shouting. I mean, he's not bad, but he isn't great.
You have not seen enough of his films if you think playing insane people is what he does. He IS great, and incredibly diverse.
He IS great, and incredibly diverse.
Unless I'm watching a Martin Scorsese movie with him in it.
Unless I'm watching a Martin Scorsese movie with him in it.
So he's the same in The Departed and Wolf of Wall St? I think he's a great actor when it comes to, well, portraying unhinged people and shouting loudly and being angry and shit. But beyond that he's not really special.

He doesn't shout in every film, he does in a lot, yes, a lot of actors have their trademark thing that you probably don't even realise. That's like saying Robert De Niro is a shit actor because in most of his films he looks angry and does that threatening thing he does. He was shouting a lot and acting insane because he was a crack addict (and others) and filthy fucking rich all of a sudden. Looking at his filmography now he infact doesn't shout in nearly half of his films.

He's very good at playing the role of somebody who is insane, or eccentric, somebody who shouts, is angry, etc. What I am saying is that outside of these roles, he is not great. He's not bad either, but he isn't great. Don't assume that just because I think he isn't deserving of an oscar that I think he is a shit actor. Are his roles often diverse? Yes, that's undisputable. But the way he acts them isn't imo.
there are people who dont deserve an oscar that got one im looking at you silly laugh mozart

That's my main problem with DiCaprio, I've never seen a performance by him that was truly transformative. He's always just playing a part. He does a great job, but not enough for an award for best performance of the year.
I like Leo.

Also,
Leondaro DiCaprio
I bet the only reason he would even want an oscar at this point is so that people shut the fuck up about it. It would get so tiresome for all of your acting endeavours to just become "he's trying to get that elusive oscar!"
"Dr. King Schultz" was literally the German guy from Inglourious Basterds and Jamie Foxx was just doing what Jamie Foxx does, so I dunno about this.
I mean I haven't seen Jamie Foxx in anything outside of Django and Collateral, but Christoph Waltz's performance, albeit similar, was an entirely different direction from Basterds.

Also,
Shit
"Dr. King Schultz" was literally the German guy from Inglourious Basterds
if you seriously think this you're not looking beyond his appearance and voice at all

The fucking problem is that there's always that actor who plays a role better than him, and then winning the oscar.
The fucking problem is that there's always that actor who plays a role better than him, and then winning the oscar.
Or someone who didn't deserve one in the first place...
DiCaprio acting is intense and transmits emotions pretty well. That Django scene shows that. Plus, the drugged scene in The Wolf of Wall Street....that was top notch acting...wonder how many can fake that kind of paralysis because I never saw it before in any other movie..... He won't win though, because there must be some kind of fucked up joke at the academy that consists in nominating him and watching his face as the oscar is given to somebody else. Really, he once almost cried...let me show you:

He'll get one eventually. If he never gets one for a specific role, he'll probably get a life time achievement Oscar or something.
