I'm hopeful that enough representatives can be swayed to vote against this bill, I will be sending an email to my representative later tonight
If this actually passes it will be huge. Come on americans get your virtual typewriters and send some email and make some calls.
If it really does go through that could be chaos. Imagine being able to buy anyone's internet history and expose their private browsing history to the world. I don't think there'd be many people of note left untarnished. Our society can barely handle a single controversy per person. Naked pictures can ruin a career. All the sudden we'd be seeing left and right, bam, pewdiepie has a pregnant fetish, boom, this politician jerks it to tentacle porn.

Yet if this bill actually does pass then it won't be surprising when people start buying these idiots internet history to expose them after voting yes for ruining net neutrality.

Browser history, either incognito or not, goes straight to the IP anyways. In other words: no one's going to be safe from this still if it manages to pass.
It's actually kinda unreal, he says it best. Most of these stupid bills are obviously about money, but they'll spin it in some way like "no it's actually good because X", but in this case I cannot for the life of me think of a flimsy justification other than money.

(Apologies if this is actually going off-topic in anyway.)

Obama and his cronies are holding back the free market. So, what this bill is going to do is deregulate it and give companies the freedom they deserve to flourish and create jobs. That's it that's all you gotta do is just pump out a few buzzwords like "deregulate" and "take power from the federal government" and the brainwashed republican demographic will eat that shit up
all this just reminds me that the whitehouse petition site is probably never going to be used again/taken down soon
but guys guys that way we will totally catch terrorist early on!! [editline]25th March 2017[/editline] honest!
Anyone else notice that the populace has just lost their will to even try anymore? Like what the fuck happened to mass protests people losing their shit, google and wikipedia and shit fucking going offline, forcing the government to listen? I know it's a republican government but it's like, you don't just have to be resigned to it or else any little bullshit thing will pass.

The internet needs to revolt as much as they did with the Fine Bros. to the government with this bill.

What effect does protest really have? People protest police killings, poor legislation, presidential elections, etc and nothing changes. Why bother protesting when you'll be ignored anyway? I have better things to do than stand around in the heat at city hall waiting for my cunt senator to read my hand written sign while he counts his money.

If you're unhappy about the way things are then do something to change it. You don't have to go out and protest, you can do like they said and shoot an email or make a call. If you take action then yes, it's possible that little will change. But I will tell you this, if you give up and do nothing then there is a 100% chance that nothing will change.
Because nothing happens? What effect does protest really have?.
Guess youve never heard of womens suffrage or civil rights huh
SOPA died
I feel like SOPA was largely influenced by industry, tons of tech giants were getting directly involved in lobbying against SOPA because they knew it'd hurt their bottom line. In this case the tech giants (or at least ISPs) are lobbying for the negative legislation because they're the sole beneficiaries.
You can't be like this.
Guess youve never heard of womens suffrage or civil rights huh
I feel like social movements have a different weight than disagreements with specific anti-privacy legislation. Women's suffrage and the civil rights movement were a sign of a cultural shift and a new public opinion that genuinely couldn't be ignored, I don't see internet privacy as having the clout to really "matter" to politicians. Maybe that's because there are people like me that aren't willing to march in the streets or do whatever, but that's just how I feel.
Finding a way to legally strike at their legs (source of income) is the best way to have them change or fall if they do not change.
https://act.eff.org/action/don-t-let-congress-undermine-our-online-privacy
fucking hell, did this for once in my life and my representative's voicemail box is full
fucking hell, did this for once in my life and my representative's voicemail box is full
gotta keep trying, also physical mail helps
They're just going to put an asterick at the bottom that says they can't have their history sold, probably citing 'national security' and pass it anyway. They do not care about the people. Once they get in their comfy seat it's out with the public service act and in with the vassal mindset
Extremely important bump: looks like it was finally passed
