(Reuters) - A Dutch architectural firm has apologized for its design of twin skyscrapers in central Seoul which resemble the exploding World Trade Center towers in New York and have infuriated families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
The blueprint for the luxury apartment buildings was released last week and shows a structure which juts out at the middle to accommodate pools, restaurants, cafes and a gym.
Relatives of victims of al Qaeda's September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States have expressed outrage, according to U.S. media reports, saying the designers have no respect for those that died and branding the design a cheap publicity stunt.
Designer MVRDV said it had not intended to create an image resembling the attacks, and it did not see the resemblance during the design process.
"We sincerely apologize to anyone whose feelings we have hurt. It was not our intention," the company said on its website.
It did not indicate whether it would change the design.
"A real media storm has started and we receive threatening emails and calls of angry people calling us al Qaeda lovers or worse," it said on its Facebook page.
The district developer is expected to decide on the final design plans by March.

The building design in question:

I can kinda see the resemblance, can you? :v:
People really need to stop seeing the negatives in stuff.
It's like they want to feel "hurt" about trivial shit. This is just another building, it just happens to look like this, it's not a personal attack over something that happened a decade ago, move on.

but....but...9/11!
To be honest, it looks really cool.
I like it. It was called Digital Cloud or something wasn't it? I'd love to have a pool that sat in the cloud portion of it. As for the 9/11 thing, if there can be artistic cultural representations of nuclear explosions I don't see why this is called tasteless.
The elevator and staircase floor plan for that must be complicated as hell...
I was expecting it to look a little bit more like this

But since it doesn't, I don't see why anyone should get mad at a pretty cool building design.
that's just retarded
"A real media storm has started and we receive threatening emails and calls of angry people calling us al Qaeda lovers or worse,"
frankly if those are the kind of people getting pissed off then they shouldn't even bother apologizing. ignorant pricks, i'm sure the design of some seoul skyscrapers will affect you so much!!!
Oh boy there is a chance my uncle designed that thing since he works for the same company as designer :v:
This is not how you get over a disaster, how do the victims expect to move on when they're flipping their shit over everything. This is why people are still pissy 10 years later, they can't fucking let go
So building two tall structures next to each other=9/11?
It doesn't look like an explosion resembling the WTC. For one the WTC exploded and two dramticlally different levels unlike shown in the design of this building. If anything it looks more a cloud hovering between two buildings, but is obviously connected for structural reasons.

It's called concept art you fools.
honestly if shit like this offends you, you should just jump off the tower once it's built and spare us your incessant whining
That does not look anything like

It looks pretty ugly but it doesn't look much like an explosion. It looks more like a tumor to me.
Man if that centre bit has a glass bottomed pool in it I'd bust a nut.
People really need to move on from 9/11.
Design looked kinda cool in my opinion. I see a lot of resemblance but I'm pretty sure it was unintended?
People are fucking retarded
i'm an american and as much as a terrible event 9/11 was, holy shit people in this country need to get over it.

Either you weren't there or have never seen the things that happened. The gruesome things that they didn't show you on TV and the stories they don't publish in books.
Have some compassion for the victims, America won't be over it until our generation is dead and even than it'll still be history.
it looks like someone went crazy with the glass blocks in minecraft

I can understand compassion, but this is the equivalent of somebody who hates cake bringing it up every time someone says something.
Move on. You don't get past something until you know it'll be remembered and avoided, and I think we all know not to blow up monuments with people inside.

Uh okay.

That's irrelevant to what I said. I don't think it's as easy as people saying "get over it" I didn't say anything about people being offended by monuments (in this case I instantly saw the resemblance) just that it's a lack of compassion and understanding is what brings on that "get over it" concept.
Pretty odd looking design, to be honest. Quite.. original, I guess?
They should add a bungeejumping platform for bonus trollage.

That's terrible!
...but I laughed regardless.

People like to be politically correct about things for fear of hurting the very, very few who actually are sensitive to the issue - those who actually lost people in the attacks.
But even then, I'm sure a great many of those people have moved on with their lives mostly.
I expect 50 years from now, "OMG 9/11!!"
