Ive recently taken up rock climbing, does anyone else here go climbing often and is it helpful with my general fitness? I was told by my friend (Who I climb with) that you can gain alot of muscle from climbing if done properly and I want to know if this is true and if anyone else actually did it here. Will it help my overall fitness in the longrun?
Climbing is definitely a good way to gain muscle. Binsky climbs so I'm sure he'll tell you more about it.

It uses pretty much your whole body so it's a great way to stay in shape, and if you're hardcore about it you can get pretty big. I like climbing at my university's indoor wall, just so I can go to the top, do 10 pullups while holding the top 2 rocks and then climb down. I suck at climbing though and I just do it as a burnout exercise after abs day, If I keep going I'll probably get better eventually. Trying to climb all the way up the climbing wall with just hands and legs hanging, it's pretty hard, Binskbro you ever done that?
YES! i love getting jacked muskles! lol nah, but yes i do indoor rock climbing in the winter, great way to stay in shape.
I do proper climbing. Most of the time we're just hanging off the wall anyways (We hardly ever belay or anything, when we last did my friend kept lifting me up and letting me do no climbing) and it feels like its making me less fat :P I like the idea of climbing to the top doing a few pullups and then coming down though, sounds pretty solid. Ill try it next time! :)
I rock climbed for about a year, climbing almost 5 days a week for 3 hours or more and after that I could do about 20 pull ups without ever working out. Actually now that I think about it, I remember doing 19 regular pull ups and then 12 wide arm pull ups, so yes rock climbing is a very good way to get in shape.

On the ladder i can also campus dyno (dyno means jump and again campus is without legs) up past two rungs until i get to the top the campus dyno down one at a time.
How hard exactly is it to 'campus' at first? Is there any certain way to start or what?
Also, I'm kind of upset I didn't get to make a Rock Climbing thread :(
Maybe a rock climbing megathread would be useful? :)
Also, I'm kind of upset I didn't get to make a Rock Climbing thread :(
maybe you and retard turtle can collaborate on the OP?
How hard exactly is it to 'campus' at first? Is there any certain way to start or what?
You have to keep your core tight to minimize swinging. Be slow and controlled. Are you trying to campus on a climbing ladder or a route or what?
You have to keep your core tight to minimize swinging. Be slow and controlled. Are you trying to campus on a climbing ladder or a route or what?
Probably a route more than anything, is there anything different about method on a route or ladder?
Also, I would be fine with making a megathread if you guys want.
Also, I would be fine with making a megathread if you guys want.
git er done!
Probably a route more than anything, is there anything different about method on a route or ladder?
Ladder would probably be good practice so you could then do it on routes.

I was not Posting Under the influence if that's what you're insinuating.
I liked climbing, I use to do it a little when i was 14. then my dad and step-dad stopped trying to do fun shit with me, so i had no one to assist with the ropes.
