This off-beat event is something everyone should do at least once or at the very least come along as a spectator. With crowds of 10,000 to 15,000 the competitive tension, the thrills and spills, the enthusiastic commentary, the atmosphere of a Sunday afternoon, all go to make this a unique and most memorable experience. Both BBC Television and Satellite TV have filmed these “wacky races” with Radio and Media supporting the coverage of this biennially spectacle which now attract entrants from the BBC, Wave 105.2FM and The Bournemouth Echo and many more. Teams are made from up to four drivers per car and there are classes for juniors (under 16’s), ladies and seniors. The 1.4 kilometre (Extended) Street Race Circuit is flat out for most of the way with just a few corners of note, with overtaking at three abreast in the fastest sections. The local opposition is absolutely first class. Teams such as Spirit of Verwood, Royce and RH Franks are very hard to beat. The judging of the Concours D' Elegance is always held on the Saturday so that members of the public can come along and get a sneak preview. Race Day; The pedal cars assemble in the Furlong Centre from 10.00am , with the race starting at 2.00pm. Spectators are able to walk around the whole course to watch the race from various different vantage points. The whole emphasis of the event is to have FUN! It's a 2 hour endurance race (ala Le Mans) between 2pm and 4pm, with a team of 4 men/women competing against over 50 teams for a bit of metal shaped to look like a trophy. No streaming, unfortunately, due to the fact that 3G in Ringwood is very sketchy at the best of times. No, I'm not racing. IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT COMING ALONG The nearest rail station to Ringwood is Bournemouth. Be aware that the regular bus that comes in takes normally around 30 minutes, and there is a temporary bus stop (the track goes through the bus / taxi rank). Didn't I already see a thread like this.
Didn't I already see a thread like this.
That was probably the Police Cars thread (the Police pedal-car was in there)
It looks rather fantastic actually.
Did I mention that Ringwood Brewery gives out free beer at the event?
that looks fun
Did I mention that Ringwood Brewery gives out free beer at the event?
You certainly didn't
Bumping because we're going to be liveblogging from 1PM BST today (Bengley + I) with guest commentary turned on. As I said earlier, no livestreams like ustream because Ringwood's cellular network can't cope normally, let alone under pressure
