The camera man is a typical squaddie, seriously. For the actions of the other soldiers, you have to take in to account the context of this - they are British Soldiers, whose training to deal with riots is the old stuff they developed in N. Ireland. They were having stones and other stuff thrown at them and they weren't allowed to fire. Not defending them, just saying before the enviable happens.
