China blocks US Carrier Group from visiting Hong Kong
China blocked a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier from arriving at a port in Hong Kong as tensions ratcheted up over disputed islands in the South China Sea, a Pentagon spokesman confirmed Friday.
The USS John C. Stennis and escort ships had planned to visit the port next week, Stars & Stripes reports. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not explain why it denied the request.
"We have a long track record of successful port visits to Hong Kong, including with the current visit of the USS Blue Ridge, and we expect that will continue,” Cmdr. Bill Urban told Fox News. The USS Blue Ridge is a Navy command ship.
China claims virtually all of the strategically vital South China Sea and has tried to shore up its control by building islands on coral reefs complete with airstrips, harbors and radar stations.
I hope they DO realize being at a distance from the fight is exactly what an aircraft carrier wants, right?
I sure hope it comes to my hometown again, the last time it came for resupply we got a massive income boost from all of the stuff they bought and at the same time we get to enjoy seeing that behemoth taking up what seemed like the entire Cove.

I dont think that the carrier wants to dock there to launch an airstrike from their harbor.
I think they rather the Navy get their rest elsewhere.

HK is one of our favorite ports. But when we don't go to a port, we don't 'Go elsewhere' we just don't go to one at all so they fucked the crew out of time off.
Seems like a blow to the local economy to me. Not practical from the Chinese side.

What the hell? What does violence have anything to do with this.
This is politics and hopefully they'll be able to go next time.
It is about blocking the US from their sphere of influence
How rude. So much for Chinese hospitality.

Your saying that as if they had any in the first place.
