It is also one of the few metropolitan areas in the country where crime is on the rise, bucking a nationwide trend that has seen crime rates drop to their lowest levels since 1972.
The Kelowna metropolitan area, which includes the city of Kelowna and neighbouring cities, had a crime rate in 2012 of 8,875 crimes for every 100,000 people, up six per cent over 2011.
That gives Kelowna the highest crime rate of the 33 major cities tracked by Statistics Canada.
In contrast, Metro Vancouver, at 6,958, has the seventh-highest crime rate.

Good. Now we can call Kelowna a place to avoid because it's boring as fuck if you aren't rich AND it's more crime ridden than Surrey.
Kelowna is weed land. No joke. If pot was legal, there'd be basically no crime here at all.
OP is right though, Kelowna is boring, with the exception of a few arcades. Go to Vernon, they got waterslides there
That's an old ass picture, though. That bridge was sunk like 5 years ago, they built a new one.
Shit I haven't been to Kelowna in years. Though I'm pretty sure most of this is just from weed.
Hi there.
I miss Kelowna, does Gyro Beach still have that concession stand in the shape of a giant apple?
Suck it Winnipeg! BC #1!
That's because most hustlers were young, now most of them are going in fraud and that pays a lot more. Criminals are growing up.
I lived in Kelowna, I just moved to Houston for school though. Fuck I miss it, I love it there especially in the summer. Left behind all my best friends
but wait crime ridden wut lol
That's just odd.
I always though it was an RV tourist trap and have a very hard time imagining Canadians thuging on vacationing retirees.
-edit
Ok.. so it's drug and auto theft.
And attributed to repeat offenders.
Not so bad, really.
I've always heard it was a nice place.
Surprisingly I heard Toronto is on the low-end for crime this year. I wish someone would tell the news that, all I ever hear about it shootings and stabbings.

The region I live in is statistically "crime-ridden" but I rarely see anything at all
there's like a murder every year and a half, I assume it's mostly drug stuff
Everyone in Canada knows that crime in BC = weed.
psh, us Winnipegers let you have it.
[editline]26th July 2013[/editline]
so did Regina
Hey, I was born there! And yeah I think Gyro beach still has the Apple concession stand.
I was expecting Toronto or Saskatoon..
Woohoo! It's not Winnipeg for once!
I just moved from Kelowna last month! This is funny to me as on my final week of college, my bike got stolen... In the morning.
Edit:
Oh cool, they found a dead body by my college recently.

I can confirm the concession stand is still in fact standing. And I'd say that most crime is just weed-related I never see any 'crime' at all.
If the most crime-ridden city in Canada has a reputation for being boring / a tourist trap, I feel even more sorry for Detroit.
Oh hey! A city that's overseas listed super crime-ridden let's see:
Kelowna, BC, Canada: 8,875 per 100,000

Rockford, IL, USA: 9,297 per 100,000
Oh wait less criminal than my city.
Go Rockford... :c
Wait, more crime ridden then Surrey?
That can't be possible.
