Skálmöld (pronounced Sk-owl-m-uhld (or something like that)) is a folk/viking metal band from Iceland. Formed in 2009, they have put all their effort into one album, Baldur, which came out in 2010. It is currently the best-selling album in Iceland. They list themselves as powerful, melodic and epic Viking metal. Think of it as Amon Amarth meets Ensiferum meets Iron Maiden meets the Icelandic composer Jón Leifs.
Band members:
Baldur Ragnarsson - guitar and vocals
Björgvin Sigurðsson - vocals
Gunnar Ben - keyboard, oboe (badass as hell) and vocals
Jón Geir Jóhannson - drums and vocals
Snæbjörn Ragnarsson - bass and vocals
Þráinn Árni Baldvinsson - guitar and vocals
(The little booklet in the CD lists them all on vocals, I'm just guessing that Björgvin does the lead and the rest are backing)

Baldur is, as said before, the bands first album. Released in 2010, it is as of now the best-selling album in all of Iceland. It tells the story of a Viking called... well, Baldur. It's pretty much the same Viking cliché, awful things happen to him, he wants revenge, he gets revenge, he dies and goes to Valhall. This is, in my opinion, one of the best album to come out of this country.

Now here we have the definitive Icelandic metal band.
The lyrics and songs itself are so fucking well done, it's hard to think that they were written up in a coupla days. It's a motherfuckin' concept album bitches, and the lyricist Snæbjörn is undoubtedly the best Icelandic lyricist in modern Iceland. And, he named the fucking title hero and the whole durn album in the name of his brother, the guitarist, Baldur.
That's fucking hardcore.
Now keep this thread alive you weaklings, viking metal is good metal.
My band ONI is like an Icelandic mastodon~
But skálmöld is something else. They're going to play wacken this year
This sounds really nice , I like Kvaðning a lot!
Thanks for making me discover this band, OP.

No problem, it's pretty much the reason I made this thread.
They just posted on their Facebook page that they're working on new material.
Well, it's only been 3 months since Baldur, but I hope new stuff comes out sooner rather than later.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
