So I recently got a job at a local franchise owned high end electronic store At first it was okay but this week my manager decided to DOUBLE my hours in the middle of a (this) week! so originally I only work 20 hours a week and I had a two 5 hours shift and a 9 hours shift ut now I have a 30 hours fucking shift!!
Each shift is 8 hours each and because of this extra hours I had/have to cancel my plans to study on Wednesday and Saturday..Possibly this Sunday
FYI I'm a fulltime university student and the manager KNOWS it!! I've talked to him aabout it but he doesn't seem to care for the fact that I have school and questions me why I can't work on certain day and time.. hell he even asks me how long my study period is so he could put me on schedule.
I just CANNOT work that much!! 30 hours is almost a fulltime job and I just cant do it. Another thing is that...after the second shift my manager changed his attitude towards me. Now he always pick me to do all the shitty task while everyone else who has more expiernce than me gets to sit around and talk. He also always pick on me and blames me for things I don't intentionally mean.
Hell, I'm not even allowed to go 20 out to the food court (right outside my workplace) to get a drink until I get my break ( Today I had to wait 2 hours for a collegue to finish his break before I got mine)
Everytime I finish work, I feel like absolute shit because of the manager and the extreme hours that I get.. My question to facepunch is..
Should I just quit? Even though I told my manager I could work through the entire december..as a seasonal employee (this is before I realized the manager is such an asshole)
yes, your manager is obviously an asshole.
I'd quit if I were you.
Dat cliffhanger title
Quit with a bunch of other people and laugh at your boss for being retarded.

Thing is..other people (people who were hired months before me ) seems to have it good. The manager don't pick on them and they seem to enjoy woking there alot.
the answer is yes
studies always before work, i've learned that the hard way before

Quit anyways.
Your boss is a dickhead who finds you useless.
Nope, don't quit.
I'm sorry, did you say a 30 hour shift or did I misread? On a scale of 1-10 how impossible is a 30 hour shift?
I only work 20 hours a week and I had a two 5 hours shift and a 9 hours shift ut now I have a 30 hours fucking shift!!
that sentence is deeply confusing for some reason
Nope, don't quit.
'Cause clearly working at a low wage and bad work environment for the rest of his life is better than being educating for a job that offers better wage and work environment.

Originally I had to work 20 hours but then she changed my schedule in a middle of a week so now I have to work 34 hours..

Is she fat?
I'd quit. You're part-time, but he's treating you like full-time. If you don't quit, it will impact your grades.
Time to go, bro.
-snip-
I argue the validity of this post. If he is a full-time university student, why can't I understand this post?
OP, rephrase your post so I may understand.
I'm being honest, not a dick.

Just to clarify, a shift means point A to point B, from the time you enter your workplace to the time you leave. I think you mean you are working 30 hours a week* Because working a 30 hour shift is basically impossible and most likely illegal, seeing as a single day is 24 hours.

English might not be his first language. Or he typed way too fast.

True. I still don't understand fully what is going on.

Yeah sorry. I mean working 30 hours a week..
and yes hypno-toad is right.. I'm Japanese. English isn't my first language so yeah
and yeah I was hired as a PART-TIME seasonal sales rep and for whatever reason the manager is giving me full time hours and expects me to work these hours
You know if she is fat, you shouldn't be working for her at the first place, fat women tend to get power crazy and bitchy.
Talk to you manager about that. What's to lose?
I she doesn't give in, quit.
As a full time Uni student myself. 30 Hours a week? Fuck that shit man, studies have gotta come first cause at the end of the day that is what will determine your future. Not some part time job that's gonna cripple you for time.
Killuah's got a point though. Bitch or not, ask your boss and have a rational discussion over it and explain your situation fully if you haven't already. If they refuse to compromise and still talk down to you on the matter, just give it up.
Now that I understand, yea, fuck that. Get the hell out of that job before it kills your school life.
Your boss is an asshole. Quit before he demotes you to Janitor. In addition, if you don't study, you will eventually wind up being a janitor anyways. So get a move on those resignation papers, OR, if you really want to send a message...
Take a shit on his desk when he isn't there and then leave a note saying "Give me some shitty jobs now, asshole! I QUIT!"
I'm Japanese.
HERRO, PREASE.
Wait, that was the Chinese on South Park... Fuck.
Either way just quit.
quit after the next pay check. if it's not very soon then quit.
quit after the next pay check. if it's not very soon then quit.
Even if he quits before the paycheck comes, his manager will HAVE to pay for the hours he made.
Take a year off uni if he can give you a whole year of work, so you can then focus on your studies and not work at the same time.
Tell her you'll leave if she doesn't lower your hours to the original amount of hours that it is in your contract. She cannot force you to work all those 30 hours anyway, because you probably signed for those 20. If she's persistent you obviously are way better off at the store next door.
I'd personally quit as your education is more important. If you need the cash find a new weekend job somewhere else when you're able to.
If it truly is impacting your school work, then yes, by all means quit.
But i have managed 40 hours a week, putting in 16 hours a week of school, and gotten by just fine.
But everyone is different. You just need to decide how much it's getting in the way of school, because no temporary job should get in the way of that.
But if you can manage to do both, you can make some money.
And the new guy always catches shit. You get the shit jobs until you aren't the new guy anymore. Then it's that guy's turn. But just remember how much it sucked being that guy, and try to go easy on him when no one else does.
