[sp]G2A gotta put up or shut up[/sp]
Haven't even opened the video yet, but I laughed at "What happened to Gearbox?" The head lied about where the company name came from, and the company weaseled out of a lawsuit because they siphoned funding from Sega for one game to use it on another. The company is actually fucked and always have been.
10:20 couldn't disagree more, it was nice not having to skip for once
Seriously, fuck G2A.
To give you an idea how much of a shitty business they are, take a look at the mundane sequences of steps you need to take just to unsubscribe their "G2A Shield" scam.
If you have to pay a monthly subscription just for basic buyer protections, i think you can get a pretty good idea on how trustworthy a website is.

People constantly say "but they are trying to become a legitimate company!!" but stuff like this makes it fantastically clear they aren't. They are fully aware of how scummy their site is and they aren't doing a thing to crack down on it, they are profiting from it. Using it as leverage to get more money out of people and to influence devs and publishers into what is basically a protection racket.
Ey, pay up and maybe your shit won't get smashed. Don't wanna play ball? Well, we's can't really be sure what might happen on our website then... Yeah. Sounds like a real legit business to me. But people will still defend them because cheap games and streamer sponsors.
Also, people constantly buying cheap keys in places like Russia and reselling them on sites like these is one reason why legitimate consumers in those areas get fucked on pricing sometimes, and why region locking, a very anti-consumer practice, still happens occasionally. If there's one thing you don't want to give large companies, it's an actually semi-legit excuse to do something anti-consumer like using heavy region locking.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if G2A is paying shills on popular gaming communities and social media, especially considering they already go out their ways advertising themselves by sponsoring major professional esports teams and events using their laundered money.
Just try and create a thread about how awful G2A is on /r/gaming. Your thread is pretty much guaranteed to be downvoted to oblivion very quickly, followed by waves of comments from people jerking off G2A and calling you a fag

That's just /r/gaming, though. It's the eternal high school hallway, where us vs them never ends.

I never understood why the shield is needed, if you pay with PayPal you're already safe from getting scammed.
I never understood why the shield is needed, if you pay with PayPal you're already safe from getting scammed.
It's the same reason game stores offer you extended warranty protection for an additional cost even though, if you pay by credit card, you're already covered by at least equal terms by your cardholder agreement. It's free money.
Only in the case of G2A Shield, you're also paying for things that almost any other online retailer considers such fundamental aspects of customer service that they don't charge for them. And then it's harder to get out of G2A Shield than it used to be to cancel your AOL account, so they hope you'll just keep paying for it even if you have no benefit to the service. That's what moves it from merely "consumer-unfriendly" to "scam".
I buy games from Kinguin sometimes, I haven't heard any horror stories but I am getting increasingly wary of key sites in general.
Always had people wondering if G2A was legit (clearly not) but never really any others.

Key reseller sites are inherently shady unless they're working directly with the developers of those games. If I buy 300 copies of game X with stolen credit cards and sell those games on site Y it's easy money laundering.
I bought 6 games on G2A over the past year (without shield) and never had any issues. Although now that a lot of people are calling G2A out, I might just only do it for "cheap" games.
The one time I bought something from Kinguin, it was an MGSV key that a retailer turned out to only have like 200 of and me and several other people here at FP got screwed. I forced a refund after a lot of bullshit involving them trying to get store credit instead and other hell, and had to rebuy the game via Greenmangaming a week later.
Sites like GMG are great for me these past several years. Sites like Kinguin and G2A are pretty much asking for problems.
Older games are usually fine because it's resellers either going to the developers and buying keys in bulk or just buying a lot of copies when they go on sale
If you go to buy a AAA game on release day and it's cheaper than anywhere official it's either straight up stolen or greymarket at best, might not be technically illegal but you're still ripping off the developer anyway

It is legitimately the reason r/games exists. They had to get rid of the spam and the idiots, though they seem to choose their moderators on a 1 legitimately crazy per three recruitments
I used to use G2A when it was just starting off, but quickly switched to cdkeys.com instead. I compared prices for the same product and with their "shield" it is additional £4 it was I think, for what exactly? Gamble that code might not work. Well that's fun, I'll go and get what I need from I site I've bought a lot from before instead.

I regret buying stuff from G2A after I learned of their fraudulent activities. I was the victim of such credit card fraud myself, and it pains me to think that I was an unwitting accomplice to someone thieving off an honest person. :frown:
I bought a total of three games from G2A, but never again.
I never knew any of this stuff. I'd seen its sponsorships everywhere and I didn't even know what the site was up until a few days ago when I almost bought something because someone mentioned a sale. I'm glad I didn't, this is some real malicious stuff.

CDKeys is fucking greaaat
What's the deal with cdkeys.com? I've bought several games from and they've always done me right and have excellent customer service but I think like 2 of the games I've bought had the keys just be a picture of the keys. I've seen other people say they're grey market or stolen and their comments are always full of people complaining about never getting their keys.

Not too long ago I've bought three keys which should've been one for me and two given to friends but once I've got the keys none of them worked.
I messaged the seller, he wanted additional info, I gave and did whatever was needed to prove that the keys didn't work yet g2a just sided with the seller and I was stuck there with 30€ lost that wasn't even my money as my friend wanted to pay but TBH his fault for choosing g2a. Thank fuck for PayPal as I just went there and did a charge back.
Somehow I doubt that this will substantially affect G2A's consumer base. People will continue to buy from the cheapest source, whether it's wrong or not.

I did myself as I wasn't aware of the business tactics from most of these sites and I guess a lot of consumers are like me. I'm glad TB is actually doing something against it and it would be great if G2A would actually change.

Reminds me of the outcry about Twitch streamers being sponsored by G2A.
Besides the fact that some people can't get out of their contract, a ton of people did not really care and still advertise them after over a year now.

We all make mistakes
Well, they have a week to comply (at least with G2A Shield) so we'll see if they can pull a 180 or not.
its been a couple months since i used g2a but i dont remember g2a shield being anymore difficult to remove from your order than literally unticking one box at checkout. maybe it changed idk.

o i c.
i didnt even know you could make an account on g2a, or subscribe to shield. i just bought stuff as a guest user i suppose and disabled shield on a per transaction basis. that certainly seems a lot easier than whatever that guy was doing. idk why someone would subscribe to something like that anyway but i dont buy game too often either
Simple, it's on by default so one small slip and you have to mark in your calendar for the last two days of a month to do this.
