More details are surfacing about the upcoming "Law & Order: SVU" episode inspired by the shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Reports now say the episode will also include elements of another real-life controversy - the racially-charged scandal involving celebrity chef Paula Deen. Insiders tells TheWrap.com Cybill Shepherd will play a character that appears to be a cross-composite of Deen and George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed Martin. Shepherd's character will reportedly claim self-defense after shooting an unarmed hoodie-wearing teenager she believes is following her.

So a combination of a definite racist who didn't kill anyone with someone who isn't a racist but killed in self-defense. Is this really the best Law and Order has to offer? What a terrible idea.
can't they just let the fucking case die?
This is fucking stupid.

YE like poor ol' trayvon? No chance!!! #Justicefortrévon
I would be pretty upset if I was Paula Deen.
Thankfully we can expect a fair and unbiased analysis of the controversy from the brilliant writers at Law & Order: SVU.
Not surprising. They do this alot on SVU with famous cases. I remember seeing one from years back that was basically about Michael Jackson.
Law and Order always takes cases from headlines. I don't see why everyone's surprised that they're doing this.
As much as I love law and order...I have to put my foot down and express how fucking stupid this idea is. Let the case die please....you don't pour gasoline onto a raging fire to put it out.
wow fuck off
Can't wait to see it. They always make the best out of "real life inspiration" without it actually being too relavent to anything thats actually happened.
And we can at least be glad that its in Law and Order, which usually has spectacular writing, instead of some other crappy show.
Before you click dumb:
Cybill Shepherd will play Jolene Castille, high-profile celebrity chef who shoots and kills an unarmed teen in a hoodie on the Upper West Side because she thought she was being pursued by a rapist. The character claims self-defense because she knew the detectives were after a rapist who fit the description, according to TV Guide.
Its just like any other law and order episode, with few borrowed aspects from reality.
They'll probably portray Zimmerman as an evil racist or something.
Why would the broadcasters let them air that episode?

We aren't surprised that they are doing a story about trayvons case, we are surprised that they blatantly combined two unrelated cases to push the "zimmerman was racist" thing. WHen they couldn't find anything to use about him they just took the most recent event that included racism and combined it to push their shitty agenda on everyone.
What does this have to do about sex crimes though?
Let me guess; they aren't going to use a Hispanic actor, nor will they show the kid beating the Zimmerman-clone.
I actually want to watch this episode, just out of curiosity.

Examine the post above.
This is how these shows make money.

Good question:

Also, have a slightly more detailed source:

Vincent D'Onofrio wouldn't put up with this shit.
It's not even the same, what the fuck.
can't they just let the fucking case die?
well to be fair the situation probably isn't being helped by all the dudes on FP who immediately post "lol black people are saying #justicefortrayvon on twitter pls give zings!!" as soon as anything vaguely related to a black guy committing a crime hits the news

Wait, wasn't Trayvon the one scared of being followed by a rapist so he attacked Zimmerman?
Wonder if it was Speed Weed's idea...
It's not even the same, what the fuck.
Well they do sort of have to make it at least a bit different, otherwise they'd get sued. Seems pretty dumb though to be combining a race issue (Paula Deen) with one that has only been artificially infused with racial problems (Trayvon).
Wait, wasn't Trayvon the one scared of being followed by a rapist so he attacked Zimmerman?
Well we don't really know why trayvon attacked Zimmerman. All we know is that it probably had to do with zimmerman following him.
SVU got boring when Christopher Meloni left
I think it's funny how most of facepunch kinda lets racism related stories slide, but if anyone's even hinting at homophobia a bus arrive's with people to defend.
Why would the broadcasters let them air that episode?
Because controversial current topics bring in viewers, which brings in revenue. It's business: just like realistic journalism doesn't sell, neither does television.
