Science Explains Near-Death Experiences: Electrical Surge In Dying Brain.
60 replies, posted
A U-M study shows shortly after clinical death, in which the heart stops beating and blood stops flowing to the brain, rats display brain activity patterns characteristic of conscious perception.
"In fact, at near-death, many known electrical signatures of consciousness exceeded levels found in the waking state, suggesting that the brain is capable of well-organized electrical activity during the early stage of clinical death.•••"
"we were surprised by the high levels of activity,"

Haven't we known this for years?

No, no we haven't.
Why do people always post comments like these?
Would that mean hyperactive brain activity
such as remembering all the major moments in your life?
Haven't we known this for years?
no, they have only just started to understand the science behind near-death experiences

AMC logo, bottom right
I thought this was known, given that people have been revived after being pronounced clinically dead.
AMC logo, bottom right
ah didn't see that, just saw that gif some time ago and searched it up.
Still nothing about out of body near death experience!
I liked the QI discussion about this sort of thing, where the brain can be thought of as recollecting memories that may "prevent" a person from dying, or something to that effect.

I always thought Amc was a documentary channel, I guess that radically changes my opinion of bryan cranston

Probably because they mistake theories with confirmation, I'm sure this, or something similar, has been theorized before.
Haven't we known this for years?
I think this was one of those things that all scientists agreed upon, but no one had actual scientific proof because that would involve catching someone at that moment when they die then bringing them back to life all the while running scans on them and stuff.
No, no we haven't.
Why do people always post comments like these?
Because there were studies that shown results similar to these in the past. The purpose of reperforming studies is to further validate past results, so it is possible that people make posts like that because they could have seen news articles like like these in the past

Yeah, we sorta have.

Although having more research to back it up is always great.

The way it loops makes it kind of seem like someone was having sex in an MRI machine and their brain lights up every thrust
That gif is from The Walking Dead. I hate it as I see on tumblr people think it represents a real brain on the moment of death.
People are fucking gullible.

there was a gif of a piece of broccoli being MRI scanned that went around as a supposed "MRI at the time of death" on tumblr
I always imagined that it would be cool the brain could process millions of times faster in the last stages of life, allowing you to spend "years" in a state of absolute freedom in just a few seconds in the real world.
If anything awesome does happen when you die i only hope mines intact when i die.

A lot of people seem to mistake suspecting for knowing.
Suspicions are pointless until you've proven them to be correct. Noone is going to take you seriously until you put in research and get scientifically sound proof. Until then, you are just the science version of 'the ideas guy'.

The question was rhetorical, we HAVE known this for years

That's like saying the History channel shows reality television programmi-
Oh wait

Have we?
Where did you get this information from?

I've certainly seen headlines before linking it to either electrical surges or a sudden release of a hormone. Don't just assume things.

I will have some of what you're having.

Or years in extreme pain and agony while your organs fail and terrifying hallucinations.
