Included in the new update are many, many emoji characters, and there's a good breakdown on just which ones are new over at Ars Technica. ... Also spotted was a return of the "until next alarm" option for do not disturb mode, which Google apparently saw fit to resurrect. That's good, I suppose. Individual links to the Android 6.0.1 factory images follow.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/12/07/android-6-0-1-brings-back-the-until-next-alarm-option-for-do-not-disturb-mode/
When Google released the first Android M preview images shortly after Google I/O, one of the bigger changes was a reworking of the priority interruptions system that was part of Lollipop. It went back to being called Do Not Disturb mode again in M, but one of the handier features of the system was tossed: the ability to mute notifications until your next scheduled alarm. ... With Android 6.0.1, the "until next alarm" feature makes its triumphant (or rather quiet, I suppose) return. Good to know!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/12/07/tip-android-6-0-1-brings-double-tab-power-to-launch-camera-to-nexus-5-6-and-9/
Android 6.0.1's headline feature is a new set of emoji, but did you know it also adds a handy new camera launch mode to older Nexus devices? The Nexus 5X and 6P have had the double-tap power camera launch shortcut since they went on sale (and dropped a twist-to-launch gesture), but now the feature has trickled down to older Nexus models. Specifically, the Nexus 5, 6, 7 (2013) and 9 now all support it as of Android 6.0.1.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/12/07/android-6-0-1-seems-to-have-enabled-t-mobile-band-12-lte-for-the-nexus-6p-and-5x/
Google is rolling out Android 6.0.1 to Nexus devices starting today with new factory images. In addition to the new emoji, it looks like this update finally enables band 12 LTE on T-Mobile for the Nexus 6P and 5X. Yay! In case you're not familiar with the kerfuffle over T-Mobile's band 12 spectrum, the gist is that Tmo only runs VoLTE calls over band 12. Since there are areas where T-Mobile's only coverage is band 12, you need VoLTE certification to place any calls (even emergency ones). Because of this, T-Mobile is asking OEMs to kindly turn off band 12 until such time as they've had their devices certified on band 12/VoLTE. Not everyone has complied, but most established companies are playing ball. That includes Google.
I wish I had a google phone... so I would actually get updates...
feature is a new set of emoji
exciting!
Seems like T-Mobile is rolling it out for the g4 until Jan or Feb.
Can I update my rooted Nexus 9?
The Android M broke my Nexus 7 2013 Wifi's Touch Screen Controller... I hope it fixes it..
I wonder when I'll finally be able to get it OTA on my Nexus 5
I wish I had a google phone... so I would actually get updates...
Mine updated earlier to 5.1.1 :c Sony takes a long time.
O joy, an update for 1.5% of the user base!!1
exciting!
That reminds me of that wizard in skyrim that goes "a dragon? How exciting :|" Wish sony was faster with their midrange.
Good to know. Though, ever since the camera app was updated on my Nexus 5, the front camera doesn't load in it. I don't use it, but it's annoying to know that. Probably gonna update to one of the new phones through Project Fi though.
Mine updated earlier to 5.1.1 :c Sony takes a long time.
Which phone?
And it comes back to why doesn't google control the update of the OS its a pain having it in control of the phone manufactures since they need to make sure their bloat works beforehand, or delay it enough that you buy a new phone instead I would flash it but then my warranty gets voided
I'm still on 3.1.2 since they stopped pushing updates for my phone :disappoint:
Android I want to love you but the fragmentation is horrible
Can't wait till AT&T gets 6.0 on the Galaxy S5 one of these years, still sporting 5.1 I think... :s:
Can't wait till AT&T gets 6.0 on the Galaxy S5 one of these years, still sporting 4.1.1 I think... :s:
That thing should have 5.1.1 by now..
That thing should have 5.1.1 by now..
Whoops I meant 5.1. :v:
Android I want to love you but the fragmentation is horrible
just get a nexus device????????
just get a nexus device????????
"Just buy something else" is not the solution to a very real problem, which plagues users and developers alike.
just get a nexus device????????
How about google get off their lazy asses and make android a universal OS that's updated directly by them and not the OEM's like windows?
How about google get off their lazy asses and make android a universal OS that's updated directly by them like windows.
because uh for one that's not the licensing agreement google put out
Also on the nexus tablets this update reportedly moved in-screen buttons to different positions: "Back" and "Home" to the left, app switching to the right.
because uh for one that's not the licensing agreement google put out
no no no google should abandon apache and gpl approved licenses and move to a nonfree license so that they can enforce very strict control against the will of manufacturers, developers, and users thats what androids about right

If only Windows phone had proper app support...

If only Windows phone had proper app support...
and 92.7% of users are on API16+ aka the new windows 7 of android minSDK and google play services fragmenting out APIs and backported support libraries [editline]7th December 2015[/editline] and 99% of the things that require a higher API level (fingerprint support for one) ship with that api level anyways so really i don't get what your point is if you look at flagships, it's weighted heavily higher than the entire android install base
cool too bad i'm stuck with unrootable touchjizz
i'm getting the nexus 6p soon so this makes me want it even more
I'll be excited if my Note 4 sees this update before Q3 2016.
Might flash the next nightly on my 1+1 to check that poop emoji out [editline]8th December 2015[/editline] I liked the old hands up-emoji more though
