However, Adelaide-based production company Cyan Films said the low-budget, independent movie was never meant to be distributed in Iran. The movie’s producers Kate Croser and Julie Ryan were stunned by the news. They said in a statement: “We would like to express our deep shock and sadness at the sentence. "We continue to offer our support to Marzieh and her family by respecting their wishes to let the case and the appeal follow the proper legal channels." They said that Vafamehr’s role was limited to acting and that she had no input behind the scenes. Australia’s foreign minister Kevin Rudd also expressed “deep concern” at the reports. Their government sounds like a bunch of savages, ones that should be booted out of office, preferably by a large Timberland boot with tasers attached. Lots of laws to change there, starting with some of the unpleasant parts of Sharia law, as well as whatever fuckness states you can't speak out against your country or state your disagreement with the way the government and/or corporations work. I state my disdain for the Tory-LibDem "Coalition" on a regular basis, but do I get dragged from my bed and waterboarded like some sort of war criminal? No I don't, 'cause the UK is a strong democracy and nothing like the Middle East or the old Soviet Union. Sure the Wall Street riots have been met with hostilities by corporations, but that's partly due to some bad cops on the NYPD, possibly even a few crooked Commissioners. If only there were some sort of international force that enforced strong reforms of this kind, not like NATO but something similar and a bit more magnificent, working outside the jurisdiction of the United Nations.
