December 22nd 10 AM PST
The “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” Award - Some people just need a hug.
-Borderlands 2
-Dead by Daylight
-Far Cry 3
-Far Cry 4
-Portal 2
December 23rd 10 AM PST
The “I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award” Award – This title didn’t have a huge marketing machine behind it, but you found it and loved it. Then you told your friends about it. And they loved it. And now that little game that could is about to win an award… but always remember: you totally found it first.
-Euro Truck Simulator 2
-Paladins
-Starbound
-Stardew Valley
-Unturned
December 24th 10 AM PST
The “Test of Time" Award – This award is for the game that is just as good today as the day you first played it. Newer games may come out, but it doesn’t matter… you’ll always come back to play this one.
-Age of Empires II HD
-The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
-Sid Meier’s Civilization V
-Team Fortress 2
-Terraria
December 25th 10 AM PST
The “Just 5 More Minutes” Award – You have an early day tomorrow. You need to get some sleep, so you’re just going finish one more thing before you decide to tuck in for the night. Just one more. Wait, one more. What’s that you say? It’s 2:30 AM? This award is for the game that keeps you playing late.
-Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
-Rocket League
-Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
-Fallout 4
-Terraria
December 26th 10 AM PST
The “Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!” Award – Some games melt your face. Maybe it was a crazy plot twist. Maybe you just got your wisdom teeth removed. Either way, this game BLOWS YOUR MIND.
-Bioshock Infinite
-DOOM
-Grand Theft Auto V
-Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
-The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
December 27th 10 AM PST
The “Game Within A Game Award” Award - Kinder Eggs. Peanut Butter Cups. Jelly Donuts. All great things stuffed with other great things. Like a mighty turducken, this award celebrates the best mini game hidden within another game.
-Garry’s Mod
-Grand Theft Auto V
-The Stanley Parable
-Tabletop Simulator
-The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
December 28th 10 AM PST
The “I’m Not Crying, There’s Something In My Eye” Award - Games are fun. But sometimes games become more than that, and touch you in a way you weren’t expecting. This award celebrates the game that blindsided you emotionally. You weren’t expecting to cry. It wasn’t in the plan. But it happened nonetheless.
-Life Is Strange
-To the Moon
-This War of Mine
-Undertale
-The Walking Dead
December 29th 10 AM PST
The “Best Use Of A Farm Animal” Award – Animals are rad and almost any game is better for including them. This game used a farm animal in the best way possible.
-ARK: Survival Evolved
-Blood and Bacon
-Farming Simulator 17
-Goat Simulator
-Stardew Valley
Of course, we intended to have a final 9th award, a write-in category where Committee members could suggest a new and exciting award. But the response was so overwhelming that one category didn’t seem enough… and so we decided to add not one, but four new awards!
December 30th 10 AM PST
The “Boom Boom” Award - Let’s face it: explosions are pretty great. In a blockbuster movie they’re thrilling. In a celebration with fireworks they’re beautiful. And when they’re behind a cop putting on sunglasses they’re nothing short of glorious. These games understand the fine art of detonation.
-BroForce
-DOOM
-Just Cause 3
-Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
-Kerbal Space Program
The “Love/Hate Relationship” Award - “Games are just supposed to be fun!”… oh sweet summer child, your naivety is adorable. Games can be more than fun. They can be challenges that demand perfection. These games are punishing gauntlets that make you question your very skill… a crucible that will push you either to greatness or a breaking point. You will wake up family members as you scream. Words will come out of your mouth that would make your mom blush. Your chill friends will ask you, “Why do you play something that stresses you out?”… and you will stare at them with steely eyes and reply, “Because I love it.”
-Dark Souls III
-Darkest Dungeon
-Dota 2
-Geometry Dash
-Super Meat Boy
The “Sit Back and Relax” Award - Did you read the description for the “Love/Hate Relationship” Award? This is the opposite.
-ABZU
-Cities Skylines
-Euro Truck Simulator 2
-Mini Metro
-Viridi
The “Better With Friends” Award – There are some games out there that just aren’t the same when you play by yourself. Maybe you need to have a friend to watch your back. Maybe you need to have a friend that you can stab in the back. Either way, mirth is awaiting those that gather friends to play these games.
-Don’t Starve Together
-Gang Beasts
-Golf With Your Friends
-Left 4 Dead 2
-Magicka

Shit nominations, shit awards, shit company.
“Best Use Of A Farm Animal” Award and no Hotline Miami??? Are you kidding me?
Valve is cool and fun
I find it hilarious that Skyrim got nominated for the Test Of Time award. :v:
"the game that is just as good today as the day you first played it"
"-Team Fortress 2"

Disappointed that The Ultimate Doom/Doom II didn't get the Test of Time nomination.
Also, I wonder how many votes the Episode 2 thing got. Did they have to throw all those out or did we just assume it was a huge thing and it got nowhere?

And yet they added retarded unfunny memelord games like Blood & Bacon and Goatse Simulator.
Assuming HL2 got the award for game most deserving of a sequel, they could have undone all the posts about people screaming that valve is dead and only cares about money by showing off a series of really boring screenshots that reveal nothing but Source 2 having better shadows and shading
No fucking surprise they ignored hl2ep2. Keep making your shit cash grabs with CSGO gloves.
Pathetic.
Feels like they just played it as safe as they could with the picks of those community award categories. Hopefully the winter sale goes on long enough that the winners go on sale after being announced.
[sp]Or it'll just be more cards again[/sp]
Reading this list was like being with the guy who kept cracking jokes and poking you with his elbow all day even though no one was laughing.

The cards are already out pal
Honest to god, without daily deals Steam sales have lost their excitement

This line of thinking never ceases to amuse me.
I love how KSP ended up on the explosions shortlist.
Shit nominations, shit awards, shit company.
I don't get this, is this just some re-directed hate for Hl2:EP2 not being on there? There's a ton of genuinely good nominations and games in there. I don't personally support Valve's business practices but calling the games themselves shit is a bit overboard.
Magicka, Stardew Valley, Undertale, Garry's Mod, The Witcher 3, Keep Talking, Rocket League
Like, there's a bunch of really good games on there. What's with the saltiness?
This line of thinking never ceases to amuse me.
It's not very amusing to me. It's frustrating and it makes me hesitant to trust Valve.
I love how KSP ended up on the explosions shortlist.
A pretty accurate summation of my rocket programs in that game. Got a launch record even the North Koreans cringe at.
I mean there are reasons to be distrustful of Valve, such as say the paid mods thing, the weird issues with Steam last Christmas, stuff to do with TF2 etc. etc. (not saying I disagree with or agree with any of them).
But disliking them because the games and awards you wanted didn't come up on an ultimately meaningless set of arbitrary awards... seems to be looking for a reason to hate Valve.

Yeah, 0 communication regarding a beloved franchise that has been on a cliffhanger for 9 years is hilarious.
Those are some shit nominees in the “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” category.
Yeah, 0 communication regarding a beloved franchise that has been on a cliffhanger for 9 years is hilarious.
There's a real possibility that reward got no-where near the votes people thought it did or would.
If you were a HL fan you would have voted for it (I know I did) but not everyone is. Steam got big around the time of Episode 2, but that was, as you said, 9 years ago.
While I'd love Valve to finish the series, I also don't want them to just finish it 'just because', I want it to be a great goddamn game. They don't seem to have the motivation anymore, however.

You using it to vent anger when they ignored what in all likelihood was a small movement of maybe a few thousand among the millions of steam users is ridiculous.
That being said, im upset that Skyrim is in the "test of time" section and Doom isnt.
The fuck are people so upset over a game not getting nominated. Seems like it just got less nominations than people think?

It's less exciting but a lot better for the consumer as a whole. Don't need to wait each day with the hope that that one game goes on sale, don't have to fear missing a day, don't have to deal with tedious refunds if a game goes on a better sale the day after you buy it. It's just more prosumer this way.

I didn't mean to give the impression that just because we nominated it, we want it released asap, I just want an official update from Valve regarding it.

Well screaming "WHAT A SHIT COMPANY" isnt gonna get you anywhere i reckon.
Yeah, 0 communication regarding a beloved franchise that has been on a cliffhanger for 9 years is hilarious.
To me it is because you're basically jumping down the throat of a completely different dev team because someone didn't make something you wanted.
The fuck are people so upset over a game not getting nominated. Seems like it just got less nominations than people think?
There are also people who are super angry that TF2 got nominated for the test of time award as if the fourth-most-played game on Steam that's 9 years old couldn't have conceivably won the nomination without Valve intentionally rigging the vote.
