The House appropriations committee released its homeland security bill on Tuesday and it includes the full $1.6 billion requested by the Office of Management and Budget to begin construction on a southern border wall. The bill also funds 500 new Border Patrol agents and more technology for securing the border, as well as money for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hire 1,600 additional staff and increase detention capacity. While House Republicans have enough votes to pass such a bill even with some defections, the move would likely face trouble in the Senate, where Republicans need eight Democrats to join them to advance any funding bill.
500 agents? That's barely enough to patrol about half of my city, let alone one of the most porous borders in the world
To play devil's advocate, those are 500 new agents. I assume that means in addition to the present roster. There's currently about 21,000.
The hell is he planning to make with that little money? Didn't that fence that's there now already cost way more than that?
wow theyre still on the whole wall thing? most memes dont last more than a few months!
wow theyre still on the whole wall thing? most memes dont last more than a few months!
The meme got elected as president, go figure.
Yay, about time we get that wall started.
House appropriators are including President Donald Trump's full request to fund a physical border wall in their proposed 2018 budget
FFS. How can they be this stupid. At least with the healthcare bill we know they're doing it for tax cuts. This is a 3rd grader's plan to fix immigration.
Yay, about time we get that wall started.
just as well, starting it is all you'll manage
Yay, about time we get that wall started.
You can't be serious. Have you ignored everything that points against the wall being a bad idea..and common sense itself?
Yay, about time we get that wall started.
1 billion couldn't even build a fence in Arizona.
I thought mexico was gonna pay for it.
Pretty sure komodoh is being sarcastic
Hopefully my fellow activists will help me tear the wall down. If they ever get it build.
Hopefully my fellow activists will help me tear the wall down. If they ever get it build.
Yeah, let's damage that stupid wall to make it even more expensive! Great idea! But then again, you're the guy who was rooting for the G20 riots, so that's no surprise. (I don't like the wall, but trying to tear it down by force is fucking stupid.)
Yeah, let's damage that stupid wall to make it even more expensive! Great idea! But then again, you're the guy who was rooting for the G20 riots, so that's no surprise.
It's never gonna be built
That's also a likely scenario, but where do you think would the budget go then?
I don't even think 1 billion could make a wall out of dirt, let alone something that could actually stop someone.
lol, trumps wall will span about 5 feet
Yeah, let's damage that stupid wall to make it even more expensive! Great idea! But then again, you're the guy who was rooting for the G20 riots, so that's no surprise.
That's also a likely scenario, but where do you think would the budget go then?
Probably just dump it into the military's budget

Didn't that fence that's there now already cost way more than that?
trump and his advisors are very bad with money (go figure, rich people...) so they probably think 1.6 will be enough to build a sizable stretch, enough to claim victory and check another rediculous box and boast about how "I've done more than any president ever!"
Pretty sure komodoh is being sarcastic
you should check komodoh's post history then
Yeah, let's damage that stupid wall to make it even more expensive! Great idea! But then again, you're the guy who was rooting for the G20 riots, so that's no surprise. (I don't like the wall, but trying to tear it down by force is fucking stupid.)
No, it isn't stupid at all. The majority of Americans are opposed to the wall (not to mention the majority of actual construction experts who have examined it; it's ridiculous according to them), yet here they are trying to ram it through anyway. Therefore, tearing the wall down is an entirely legitimate means of protest and resistance. If people feel compelled to do this, then perhaps the government should listen to them next time and not ram through unpopular plans anyway. That seems like common sense to me, but I dunno. Or would you rather people act like a bunch of apathetic cowards and do nothing? What's your brilliant solution?
the land theyll need to buy will cost significantly more than 2 billion alone lol
The wall's going to need to be pretty high since the vast majority of illegals came by plane
a drop of piss in an ocean. They didn't get through our stretch of wall! That goes to show it works!"
Yay, about time we get that wall started.
I'm just saying work on your sarcasm a little bit. Don't worry though, you're getting there. I understand, this is a very hard environment to practice sarcasm in these days. But yeah this is fucking stupid, though I guess it's better to waste the money than get into another war. Still, better shit to spend it on. [editline]12th July 2017[/editline] Besides, you can't TEAR DOWN THE WALL if there is no wall to being with.
Also any part of the wall that gets built is going to be destroyed sooner or later. Trump is the only person that's going to want to maintain the thing - anyone else, democrat or republican, will be content letting it crumble to dust, whether it be by humans or by nature.

No one wants to even pay for it to start, absolutely no one is going to want to pay to keep it there.
