NEWSER) – Yet another truly horrific Christmas Day story: A Connecticut woman was raped in the wee hours of Dec. 25, say police—by the paramedic who was dispatched to help her after she fell at a holiday party. Police say the 22-year-old woman suffered a head injury and lost consciousness around 3am; an American Medical Response ambulance arrived to take her Yale-New Haven Hospital. According to police, she regained consciousness on the drive there—and realized the sole paramedic in the back of the ambulance with her was sexually assaulting her.
The woman told police that the assault lasted 5 to 7 seconds; she was unable to move since she was strapped to a stretcher. The New Haven Register reports that paramedic Mark Powell, 49, turned himself in yesterday; he has been charged with sexual assault and unlawful restraint. The AP notes that a rep for AMR explained that it is a national standard to have only one person in the back of the ambulance when transporting a patient.
That's horrible that the paramedic driving didn't stop him.
This also makes you wonder how often stuff like this happens to people in hospitals and comas too. Some people have no shame.
Well that pretty much fucks up my day. At least he had the goddamn common courtesy to turn himself in. That's all you can ask for at this point.
He turned himself in.
At least he had a conscience afterward?

Well the driver probably didn't know...
A little bondage here and there shouldn't hurt.

if he had common courtesy he wouldn't rape a woman with a head injury

Sounds like somebody has stamina problems.
if he had common courtesy he wouldn't rape a woman with a head injury
I meant as a means of his conscience and guilt overtaking him. He still shouldn't have done it in the first place obviously, but at least he isn't walking away whistling and twirling a cane.
This guy may have done it multiple times just in this case the woman actually woke up during the incident.

yes ha ha it's so funny to joke about people actually getting raped.
terrible

You know what's worse than that?
Murder.
And you're guilty of first degree buzzkilling.
Pretty crazy fetisch.
Sounds like somebody has stamina problems.
Yeah, I'm thinking of rerolling.
I want to know what was going through his head, assuming this was his first time
What a way to kill someone's faith in the system. Poor woman. Imagine if she gets into a predicament again, she won't want anyone to call for help.

Yeah, getting up on all those bloody car accident victims who are minutes from death is really hot
There's so much wrong with this
What the fuck
Just...
what the fuck

Kill Bill.

Kill Bill.
Is a movie and not reality.
He turned himself in?
A man with conscience is a man enough.

Knowing human nature is it really hard to imagine something like that happening though?
Was he fired?
Was he fired?
No, incarcerated. :v:

Imagine? Yes. But until I see a statistical billboard of how often it happens, I doubt it.
pussy wagon
Snip, my opinion is invalid because I'm a paranoid freak who can't trust anybody
I guess he was a paramedick
What a lord
Just goes to show you truly cannot trust anyone on this planet at all.
Actually it just goes to show that you can't trust Mark Powell, 49, of Connecticut.
And even then, you just can't trust him not to rape you, if you're an unconscious woman and you're both alone on an ambulance.
I can't be the only one who's wondering what exactly was happening, can I?
I mean, the term "sexual assault" is fairly broad, and the fact the "assault only lasted 5 to 7 seconds" suggest to me it was probably groping - feeling her breasts or running a hand up her thigh or something - as opposed to where the term "rape" generally implies (at least to me, and I would imagine other people) penetrative sex. Not to downplay on the severity of the issue, of course. Don't get me wrong.
Even though Mingebox was poking fun at it, he does bring up a good point - I don't think sexual assault of any penetrative nature would have only lasted "5 to 7 seconds."
It's still wrong, unprofessional and he deserves to be punished for it.
