Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews hopes to have bill on legalising medical marijuana before Parliament before end of next year [quote]A bill to legalise medical marijuana could be put to Victorian parliament before the end of next year. Premier Daniel Andrews said on Friday that the Victorian Law Reform Commission would submit a report by the end of August next year to determine not if, but when the law would change to allow terminally and chronically ill people to access medicinal marijuana for treatment. "It is my hope to have the bills into Victorian parliament before the end of the year," Mr Andrews told 3AW. He said he did not expect the eclectic upper house to block the bill. The Victorian Legislative Council composition must suck for Mr Andrews, because although he's optimistic it will pass that house you wouldn't think it could happen. Labor, Greens and the Sex party voting together are still one seat short of a majority, and I doubt Democratic Labour or the Shooters and Fishers would support it. However saying all that, I think the idea of medical marijuana has had some momentum with the Liberals.
I've heard that the issue of medical marijuana is more bipartisan than you'd think.
Yeah, even Abbott was talking about legalising Medical Cannabis. Since we don't have the same aversion to it that Americans do, there's no clouding of the issue of helping people who are seriously ill.
Hopefully similar legislation is passed in Queensland when Labor is expected to kick Campbell Newman off his throne
