Police in Bahrain have fired tear gas and clashed with students in a raid on a secondary school in the capital, Manama, reports say.
Officers stormed the Jabreya school for boys after students staged a protest demanding the release of a colleague arrested on Monday, activists say.
About 100 people have been arrested this month amid growing tension ahead of Sunday's F1 Grand Prix in Bahrain.
The kingdom has been rocked by anti-government protests since early 2011.

The tear gas thing sounds like an escalation on the part of the government. If this turns into revolution, they're bringing it down on their own heads.

I dunno, I read the article and honestly it leaves out too many details. Like who this colleague was and what did he do to get arrested. Then there's the peaceful protest turned violent and ended up with 5 officers dead, like how it escalated to that point. Everything's just too foggy.
This should only be done when protests get violent. Of course, a damn monarchy doesn't like protesting anyway.
Another great US ally.

They fire tear gas all the time even when it's not violent it's ridiculous. When I was living in Bahrain I've inhaled a lungful of teargas more times then I could count.

I know nothing about this government or what happens in this country, but I'm gonna slightly lean in favor of the people because of what you said. However I don't know why they would protest the F1 race. It can bring in a lot of profit and attention to the country, giving the economy a small boost, even in the states we want F1 races for what it can do for us. I don't see it happening being anything but good for them. It's a muddy situation.

At least they aren't firing machine guns into the crowd.

No, even though both are bad I'd still lean towards in favor of the government, the protestors are worse including their agenda.

I need to pay more attention to world events, only if it would land me a job. ;_;
If they keep on using tear gas all the time, one of these days, the people will become immune to it's effect
