The five countries carrying out most executions remain China, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the US. Overall, there were just two more known executions last year - 682 in all - compared to 2011. And there were fewer newly-imposed death sentences - 1,722 against 1,923 - in fewer countries - 58 against 63. Also, despite the resumptions of executions in some countries, overall the number of states where they were recorded last year was the same - 21 - as in 2011. And Amnesty International points out that this is down significantly from 28 a decade ago. It said Latvia last year became the 97th country to abolish capital punishment for all crimes.
Who are all these people China is killing? Do they kill people for wanking?
North Korean executions at 6? I call bullshit for a nation that has prision camps and gulags set up for death and public executions held in stadiums, there has to be a bigger number
North Korean executions at 6? I call bullshit for a nation that has prision camps and gulags set up for death and public executions held in stadiums, there has to be a bigger number
Shouldn't be a surprise that NK lies about basically everything.
I knew china liked executions, but damn. That's way higher than i thought.
Shouldn't be a surprise that NK lies about basically everything.
Maybe they forgot about adding 3 0's at the end of that number when they filed those reports in
North Korean executions at 6? I always have this feeling China is just trying to kill off its huge population.
I'm actually surprised the US is still in the top five. I hope the Death Penalty is abolished soon in the USA.
Who are all these people China is killing? Do they kill people for wanking?
China also has like 3 billion people.
Unfortunately. We need more death penalties.
Unfortunately. We need more death penalties.
for who? [editline]10th April 2013[/editline]
China also has like 3 billion people.
It is still crazy high per capita.
Unfortunately. We need more death penalties.
That's an interesting way of saying " I <3 murder"

This is just my opinion, i dont wanna start any arguments or debates. I respect other people opinions, i just disagree. IMO i dont believe that people who murder more than 2 people deserve to live. They took 2 innocent lives away and ruined many other and they get the privilege of living in a prison cell. It doesnt seem right to me. Like i said its just my opinion.

How about presenting facts & a good argument against the death penalty to him instead of throwing insults. That's probably a little too much to ask for though.

[editline]10th April 2013[/editline]
How about presenting facts & a good argument against the death penalty to him instead of throwing insults. That's probably a little too much to ask for though.
Best arguement against the death pentalty so far; It's 2013, we aren't in the dark ages, we're not burning witches anymore, we're not cutting the hands off thieves, and we shouldn't be killing people and call it justice.
How about presenting facts & a good argument against the death penalty to him instead of throwing insults. That's probably a little too much to ask for though.
Tbh I feel like presenting an argument against the death penalty in 2013 is like presenting an argument against racism in 1998. Unnecessary.
How about presenting facts & a good argument against the death penalty to him instead of throwing insults. That's probably a little too much to ask for though.
Fine. The State, in any free country, does not have the right to decide who is right and who is wrong, or even what right and wrong are. Those things are the right of the people of that country to decide. The purpose of the State is to create laws that protect its people from harm, and put those who would harm others in a place away from the rest of society, where they can do no harm. The State does not have the right to take lives as a penalty for crimes committed, because in doing so, it is adopting a certain point of view of what is right, and what is wrong, and no longer represents its free and diverse population. It's natural as a human being to want to kill for revenge. If someone badly hurt or killed a member of my family, I'd not rest until I had exacted my personal vengeance, and then I would turn myself in. But a government has no place as an instrument of vengeance. Its role is to protect and serve, not punish.
Nice to see the US is still up there with all those Middle Eastern and developing countries, half of which we're actively killing people in.
