One dollar per year of lying and misery that you've had to suffer. The suit hinges on the fact that Intel 'misrepresented' the performance of the Pentium 4 processor, by inventing benchmarks that claimed to show its processor was superior to the rival AMD Athlon Thunderbird. This turned out to be a bunch of crap, and as such a group of lawyers have spent most of the last decade arguing that Intel needs to pay everyone back.

One actually productive thing to come out of this whole affair, though, is the fact that Intel is also having to donate $4,000,000 to educational charities. Guess all those legal fees weren't in vain after all
**SOURCE** I'M FUCKING RICH!
I know i have a pentium 4 processor around here somewhere..
Great, i needed the lunch money anyways..
Got a pentium 4 in the attic somewhere too.
LOADSAMONEY
I knew that box of 8 pentium 4s at the flea market was worth $10 e: damn it's not on a per-unit basis :(
IT'S PAYDAY FELLAS
I never understood these payouts without receipts. You are basically saying "Hey if you have hands and can type your contact information here's $15"
couldn't the pentium 4s OC up to 5Ghz or something
couldn't the pentium 4s OC up to 5Ghz or something
They required massive cooling setups using liquid nitrogen or helium. Originally the P4 was designed to scale up to that without that level of cooling but around the 3ghz point we hit a ceiling brought on by physics.
You guys are so lucky I was stuck with a Pentium D instead.
dude that's like 14 $1 hookers with tax; they say you never appreciate the value of a dollar till you get 15 dollars from a class action lawsuit from 15 years ago
I never understood these payouts without receipts. Humans are lazy fucks, there are a great many people who could collect this money but won't because they can't be bothered for 15 measly dollars. It the same reason most people don't send in for their rebates when they buy stuff.
Damn, that pentium I have lying in one of my boxes could have finally been useful but nah US only.
I think my parents have an old Dell with a Pentium 4 in it. This would probably pay more than I could get for selling the rest of that hunk.

(Case sized fan for each core, a huge radiator and a air tunnel) With a setup like this, the temprature would idle at 70*C get up to 90*C under load, the TJMax of the Xeon(and mobile) of the Pentium 4 series was pushed too 100*C. They bought a whole bunch of them at my dads work originally intended as Workstations, but later used as servers instead because of the incredible amount of noise the fans made during the constant 2k RPM.
I have 4 of these. They're sitting in a box next to me with at least 10 sticks of 256MB DDR RAM.
How do i get the dosh? Do i get 30$ if i have two?
You guys are so lucky I was stuck with a Pentium D instead.
Don't feel bad the Pentium d was a way better processor than the Pentium 4 ever was.
(provided you don't live in Illinois)
fuck
The workstations with the Xeon cores had some crazy cooling setups to get it stable at 3.4ghz.
3.4 GHz Netburst Xeons had a TDP of between 100-115W. The most power hungry Netburst Xeons was the "Paxville MP" (dual core + HT) at 165W. The cooling setups on all Dell machines of that vintage that used a Netburst processor had the same heatsink, green shroud and fan. It was a terribly inefficient design, exacerbated by the fact they used this horrible grey goop that wouldn't allow proper heatsink contact with the processor. This is why they're so loud and get so hot, not because the CPU produces extreme amounts of heat. Replacing the shitty thermal paste with even the cheap white stuff will considerably lower the processor temperature and make the machines run quieter. There are a few steppings of Xeons that have a lower TDP that some Dell machines support (but don't advertise) that will quiet it down further. Also, the thermal junction on most Netburst Xeons is 72C, not 100C. So running those CPUs at 90C, you're causing some pretty heavy degradation and damage.
Strangely it only applies to new computer purchases, not people who just bought the processors themselves. I know I have a Dell from around then. I want to say it had an AMD in it though.
Sooo does this apply worldwide or is Canada out of this settlement?
Got a couple of P4's sitting in my desk here at work, have been there for the last 12 years or so now. Was always an AMD guy back then, who could snub their nose at the Athlon 64 and X2... ahhh those were the days. I actually also have my Athlon 64 X2 4600+ rare-as-fuck edition in my draw here too, crossfired it with x1900's back in the day... only cost, what, $900 per video card, $400 for the CPU, $350 for that insane DFI x16/x16 crossfire motherboard (still have THAT too), uggghhh, I used to be so into the hardware game.

Help me.
Guess the old bat upstairs will be useful one more time. Where do I collect muh money?
Currently on an Athlon 64 X2... Help me.
You're not alone. My entire computer is super bottle necked just because of that cpu. I have a gtx 660 in there and it runs exactly the same as my old gts 250.
Except that the G5 ran ghost silent with that overengineered cooling system. Netburst xeons were far from silent unless the noise had driven you deaf. Edited: I just noticed that from the main page it looks like I've gone postal or something. Also, this is my 5555th post!
