Germans in the Woods- a sad WW2 story from a late veteran

I searched the last 7 pages of this section for this video but didn't find it under any logical name, so I'm sorry if I'm late
Today I went onto YouTube and one of the spotlight videos caught my eye. It is the story of a late World War 2 veteran who died last year. This video touched me because it reminds me of the stories that my late great grandfather used to tell me about his time in the service.

My Grandpa told us a similar story when he was in Korea.
Him and his crew where driving in a Tank. They saw a person running towards them and thinking this person was a suicide bomber shot and killed her. She was also carrying a baby with her. He held onto that grief for about 50 years before he told us a day before he died. Stories like this make me sad :crying:
I thought this was going to be this:

Poor guy
This is why WWII has to be my favorite war if war was a good thing.
My grandpa died when I was young, sucks I didn't get to here about his time up New Guinea, or anything else for that matter. But then again Dad says he never talked about it anyway.
Our veterans deserve so much respect.
:patriot:
The German had his chance.

Oh man, that's heart warming and sad.
Didn't the same thing happened in band of brothers?

No.
:smith:
I have the unique situation of having two grandfathers who served on two entirely different fronts, and different sides. My german grandfather served as a Wehrmacht soldier in Italy and Russia, while my american grandfather served in the Pacific theater, probably okinawa.

There was one episode where winters felt bad about shooting some teen.

Sort of. Are you talking about the bit with the German guy that was unarmed in a field picking flowers in a field and a US Soldier stands there and they both stare at each other for a few seconds and the US soldiers shoots the German? I've forgotten the names of the characters in BoB, it's been a while since I've seen it.
Similar story happened to my Grandad, he fought in India and Burma and then was sent Belgium and then the crossing of the Rhine.

When they came over the ridge?
When they came over the ridge?
Yeah, the one they charged after popping smoke.

Yes. It's not identical but it is similar as people have already mentioned.

"He was very handsome"
Did he rape his corpse afterwards?
My Papa served under Patton driving a mobile artillery. Before I could become truly mature and actually understand what WWII was he started to lose his head, like forgetting my name and who I was. I do know that he got the purple heart and he shot a German officer, we still have the Luger. He also served in the Battle of the Bulge. He died in 2008, kinda make's you think that in the near future there won't be anymore WWII vets.
Mad respect to all of Americas vet's. May he rest in peace.

Dude. Grow up.
Seriously.
Wow, that made me very sad.
This man is a hero.
Moment of silence for him up here in Canada.
Any kind of soldier has respect from me. They go through hell just to fend us off and some people just spit on their reputation.
I didn't get to hear stories from my grandpas. One died in Stalingrad massacred by the russians along with his comrades, and the other died as POW in the russian prisons in the Urals :smith:
