Tarantino's take on "Magnificent Seven" - his newest western is called "The Hateful Eight"
Quentin Tarantino is gearing up for another ride in the saddle.
For his first movie since 2012's Django Unchained, the director is going back to the Western genre with a script called The Hateful Eight, which he hopes to direct this summer, according to sources. (Another source said there is no timetable at this stage.)
The title suggests Tarantino could be upping the ante, playing off the title of John Sturges' 1960 film The Magnificent Seven, which in turn was a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Seven Samurai.
No one has been cast yet, but Tarantino has reached out to veteran casting director Victoria Thomas, who worked on Django, to work with him on casting the movie, say several insiders. A part has been written for Christoph Waltz and Bruce Dern. Tarantino has worked with Waltz on his last two pictures, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, netting Waltz Best Supporting Actor Oscars for both roles in the process, so news of the actor’s possible involvement isn’t altogether surprising. However, the prospect of Bruce Dern starring in a Quentin Tarantino film is very exciting.
In November, Tarantino revealed that he was working on a new script and that it would be a Western. But he didn’t reveal a title or suggest a timetable for making it. Tarantino has in the past mentioned projects he was working on but ended up shelving them. Basterds famously took a decade to hit the screen as he worked and reworked the script.
The director hopes to begin shooting this summer, according to insiders.
I enjoyed the hell out of Django and am glad to see him working on another movie so soon.
Best part is you know it's going to be good.
I don't know if I've ever been disappointed by any of Tarantino's flicks.
Fun stuff to watch, always.
quentin tarantino is my favorite movie related person
hes such a great influence that I decided to drop out of high school and work in a retail store just like he did!!
Waltz and Tarantino are just altogether so compatible as an actor director team. Waltz plays that classic Tarantino dialogue perfectly.
Anything from Tarantino and Waltz is going to be a good film.
it's gonna be hard seeing waltz in another western after django, i'll kinda just see him as schultz now i think
Does it have DiCaprio?
Cause if it do then sure ill watch it but damnit

I really want to see him as a complete and utter bastard in this

They make that seem like a long time.
Oh noooo, hopefully they drop the "the" so it fits with the two-word titles Tarantino's gone for
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill
Death Proof
Inglourious Basterds
Django Unchained
Hateful Eight

He probably will, not only to keep the flow, but because the original-original film didn't have a "the" either.

I'm excited.
Also this dude bought a shit ton of our wine once it was cool.

the best part
Amazing news!
I still remember being hype as shit for the Django trailer. When it first dropped I downloaded it before it got taken off youtube. People in the thread were searching for a reupload, and I was just chillin' back watching it over and over.
Then I watched it 7 times in theaters.
Ugh
If Christoph Waltz is in it I have to go see it by default.
The man is a fantastic actor, and I love the roles that he plays.
Christoph Waltz is outstanding. The opening scene in Inglorious Basterds blew my face off.

Ditto, I think westerns suit his style nicely. His style being "Fuck everything, I'm making movies that are fun to watch".
It would be awesome if Tarantino added Clint Eastwood. I know his old as hell, but damn I loved his westerns. Just add him as a wise old man or something!
Dear God, this might just be the best thing ever.

Although, I thought Dern was retiring after Nebraska. Still, it'll be cool to see him as a bona fide Western villain again.
Nice. At first I was kinda bummed that he was doing another western, because it thought it would be cool if he picked a genre that no one would see coming, but after a while I sorta warmed up to the idea. Hateful Eight sounds like a cool title for a film, and Christoph Waltz being involved makes it sound even better.
I'd love it if Tarantino made a bunch of westerns. It's a genre that needs more attention in this age. It's different and I like the way Tarantino does it.

I mean common.
it seems like ever since Django Unchained it's been the new hipster thing to hate on Tarantino, I wonder why. Did Django change much? I always thought Tarantino was more of the newage cultured demographic back in the day.
Hating Quentin Tarantino? Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?

there are allot of hipsters on FP
Hating Tarantino involves disliking conversations and strong characterization
I don't see how you can hate him without just having bad taste, even with taste being subjective

tarantino did well with inglorious and RD but the rest of his films are really eh i have never understood the hype. the way he creates dialogue is like abhorrently unnatural and not in a fun way
no one is being a ~*hipster*~ for disliking his stuff it's just really not very impressive

no one is being a ~*hipster*~ for disliking his stuff it's just really not very impressive
His stuff is hit and miss with me. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are great of course. The Kill Bill movies weren't really anything interesting once you get past the whole "Cool fights scenes!" aspect. But like Inglorious Basterds just was a complete miss. It was just like "Ehh. Was that it? You couldn't do better with this?" Django Unchained is really the only one that is just good. It wasn't anything outstanding, but it was still a good watch. I think he has kinda lost his edge to be honest.
I don't care about anything else, as long as Christoph Waltz is in it: it gon' be a good movie.
