Just Lola sticking her head out the window on the way to the beach in San Diego. She just doesn't do this in Arizona, but I have NO idea why......
Never got why dogs do this.
That can damage their eyes :(
it can damage their ears too
Never got why dogs do this.

As air moves over the olfactory membrane, odor molecules settle on the scent receptors and get recognized. The more air there is flowing over the membrane, the more scents the dogs can detect. So when a dog sticks its head out the window, it’s like pigging out at a hi-definition all-you-can-smell scent buffet.

it can damage their ears too
Really? I've never heard this, I always see dogs with their heads out the car window.
Really? I've never heard this, I always see dogs with their heads out the car window.
you try sticking your head out the window at 70 mph, tell me it's not hurting your ears
you try sticking your head out the window at 70 mph, tell me it's not hurting your ears
After a long hot day of working and with my AC busted in my car, driving down the interstate at 70 mph with my head out the window was a nice refresher. I can tell you that did not hurt my ears in anyway.
you try sticking your head out the window at 70 mph, tell me it's not hurting your ears
Um, I've done it before and I bet I have better hearing than you do. What about people on motorcycles? In Arizona people don't even wear helmets and they do like 85 on a loud ass Harley and I bet they don't mind it. I've also been skydiving, and terminal velocity is a lot faster than we were going here. All of the dogs who stick their heads out of the window and I will have to disagree with you here buddy. I think I'll ride with my head out the window for the rest of the week!

Do you ride without a helmet at 85? Obviously not because you think it would hurt your wittle ears... If you have ridden at 85, then you're a hypocrite. I've also been told staring at screens and listening to loud music would make my eyes and ears go bad; I have better than 20/20 vision and perfect hearing at 30... They never warned me that it would make me semi-retarded though, so it's the things they DON'T tell you that you should watch out for! :zoid: [editline]19th August 2013[/editline]
I'd say you're right http://animal.discovery.com/pets/pet-travel/let-dog-stick-head-out-window1.htm
I guess it CAN be bad, I'd believe the eye injury part a lot more than the ears.... Anyways, I see other dogs do it all the time and they seem fine.... If I ever have a dog burst an ear or eye I will show the video to warn other people against it. Until then, my dogs will have a good time.
I rode without a helmet once at 65 and it was bad enough, I'm not about to find out exactly what 85 is like I don't know why you're so pissy about this subject
I rode without a helmet once at 65 and it was bad enough, I'm not about to find out exactly what 85 is like I don't know why you're so pissy about this subject
Who's being pissy? I'm just saying I've never seen anything happen from dogs sticking their heads out of windows. Falling on a motorcycle at 65 without a helmet can damage a person's eyes and their ears.... It's probably awesome if you don't fall though...

A once in a while thing for short periods of time like your skydiving example won't do much, but it can definitely cause damage if you do it often.

More specifically it's illegal to have both ears covered while driving (a helmet isn't illegal obviously).

You're obviously impaired if you're listening to your iPod but simple foam ear plugs make it far easier to hear without wind blasting in your ears. They're basically the same as the ones you take with you to a gun range and you can hear everything.
