• EU reform treaty passes last test
Czech President Vaclav Klaus has signed the European Union's Lisbon Treaty, the final step in its ratification. The treaty was drawn up to streamline decision-making in the EU, and is a watered-down version of a draft EU constitution rejected four years ago. Among its measures, it creates a European Council president and alters the way member states vote. The treaty could now come into force as early as December. The Lisbon Treaty's supporters say it will allow the EU to operate more efficiently and give it greater influence in world affairs. Critics say it will cede too many national powers to Brussels. Britain's opposition Conservative Party, which has argued the treaty should be put to a referendum, said it would announce its response on Wednesday. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown welcomed the ratification, and said it marked the end of years of debate. "Today is a day when Europe looks forward," he said. Court bias The Czech Republic was the last of the EU's 27 member states to ratify the treaty. Mr Klaus signed it shortly after the Czech constitutional court rejected a complaint against it, ruling that it was in line with the Czech constitution. A BBC correspondent says Mr Klaus accused the court of bias and said the Czech Republic was no longer sovereign. The Eurosceptic Czech leader had recently said he would no longer attempt to block the treaty, after receiving the promise of an opt-out from the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights. Mr Klaus said the opt-out was needed to avoid property claims from ethnic Germans expelled from Czechoslovakia after World War II. The Lisbon Treaty replaced an earlier draft constitution that was rejected in referendums in France and the Netherlands in 2005. It would create the post of a new European Council president who would serve a term of two-and-a-half years. It also provides for a new foreign policy chief, combining the posts of the existing foreign affairs representative and the external affairs commissioner. European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said earlier that he hoped the EU could move "as quickly as possible" to make appointments to the new posts. I hope Tony Blair is president just to piss you off
Czech Republic is discussed! For being late, but anyway :buddy: [editline]05:36PM[/editline] BTW, I hate our president
What is wrong with Tony Blair except his teeth
He is directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands people? He is a compulsive liar? He is responsible for the erosion of human rights and growth of authoritarianism in the united kingdom? He ran a government built entirely on spin and lacking any substance? There's a long list of things wrong with Tony Blair, and to think that he could be responsible for the direction of legislation for 27 different countries with a combined population of 500 million people is insanity.
About damn time this passed.
No Anti-EU NWO Conspiracy Theorists in this thread yet? I'm suprised. I been giving FP less credit than it's due..

I'd like Tony Blair as president - just so the UK can stop getting fucked over by the EU. I'm not saying he'd be biased, but he would stop the fucking unfair rules.

A move which i fully support.
The EU's a Joke
This is both good and bad at the same time.
The EU's a Joke
just the way i like it. Awesome trade connections with none of the hassle of them telling us what to do. But now that's gonna be different.
What unfair rules. Name some.
By unfair, I mean rules more crafted to let the Central European industry flourish.

He was set up to be extremely popular and was selected on personality and "charm", rather than ability. that's why he was shit, he isn't very smart.
Name some.
I can't name you exact regulations that caused it, but for example, few years after getting into EU, we were forced to close down some major sugar refineries because we made sugar much cheaper than west did. Rest of Government always pushes he to do what they want. He is a tool anyway.
Either Balkenende ( The Netherlands ) or Rompuy ( Belgium ) will become president or so I've heard from a reliable news radio station in The Netherlands

Free trade is the way forward.
Got any source for that? I'm interested
Uhh, it was never internationally medially discussed as far as I know. It was also years back, so I don't know if I can really find any claims for it.
