Sony Guerilla Games Cambridge Shutting Down after 19 Years
Sony is closing the Cambridge branch of Guerrilla Games, GamesIndustry.biz has learned. All employees will be laid off.
Sony has confirmed the impending shutdown to us, saying that the compulsory redundancies are "regrettable". The decision to close the studio comes from a review of all current PlayStation projects and resources, with the platform holder concluding that "in order to deliver on our strategic objectives, it is necessary to make some changes to the European studios structure".
Guerrilla Games Amsterdam, developer of Horizon: Zero Dawn and the Killzone series, will not be affected.
Guess that's what happens when you dedicate an entire studio to a multiplayer VR game on a console...
Posted the article on the MediEvil fan forums; this is going to be the nail in the coffin for potential sequels/remakes. RIP :(

Maybe if the console VR wasn't so garbage it might've worked out better.
Sucks
MediEvil was a great game
Killzone for the Vita was an absolute wonder and probably the only shooting game to get it right on the platform
RIGs was a pretty well made and polished VR game, probably my favourite of the PSVR launch lineup
Even their PSP LittleBigPlanet port was good
They helped out at an esports event for people interested in PSVR at a local museum in Cambridge I volunteer at, apparently went down a treat and the guys from Guerilla were beyond nice.

Content wise or hardware? Because the PSVR holds up fairly well against the Rift and Vive.

In what universe?

For console experience VR it is pretty nice, it's also a very seamless and easy to setup experience in comparison to the experience of Vive and Oculus.
Is the quality of the graphics on Playstation VR worse than Oculus and Vive, of course!
But, the fact of the matter is that PlaystationVR will have a positive impact on the virtual reality space as it provides a safezone for developers to release their VR games to into a console environment.
Though honestly VR development seems to've been drawn into a terrible situation where there just isn't any good reasons to develop into and as you can see the issues of revenue is a stark reminder that maybe VR isn't really in a right place yet.

VR for games isn't in a good place, VR as a service is a fairly substantial industry, and it's carving a pretty decent hole in the market at the minute.

Of course, I think that's what's so good about VR is that it cannot be destroyed even if it's gaming market is limited as it has so much staying power by the fact that it can be used for simulation purposes.

Even then there entertainment industry is absolutely sucking up VR at the minute, the studio I work for get contracts from literally every random company you can think of asking for VR installations, even weird ones like Jaguar.
I have a perfect Medievil movie script in my head

Try turning away from the camera to grab something and tell me that again. Better yet, be perfectly positioned in front of the camera and tell me it doesn't look like you have parkinsons from all the shaking. The headset itself is fantastic, but the motion and room tracking is objectively the worst of the three
