SpaceX Plans To Build Nuclear Rockets And Plasma Spacecraft

SpaceX.
The company that put together a rocket capable of carrying as much as the Space Shuttle with one-tenth of the cost.
The company that took the COTS contracts and had its first demo flight, in which they flawlessly deployed a capsule into orbit and deorbited it unti la final splashdown.
The company that saw a crack in the second stage nozzle of its rocket, and had Marty fly in all the way across the country. To trim a few feet off the nozzle. While the rocket stood on the launch pad.
The company that is planning to build a super-heavy-lifter capable of carrying 140 tonnes to Low Earth Orbit, that has announced its goal is to turn Mankind into a spacefaring multiplanetary civilization.
And now, they are planning to use solar-electric plasma spacecraft and reviving NERVA (Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application) to create gigantic, nuclear interplanetary ships.

How are they going to fund all this?

Their tickets are all sold out, that's how.

Guy who founded SpaceX is the co-owner of PayPal.
I'd love to see this happen
I fucking love SpaceX, humanities future pretty much rests on their shoulders alone.
I really wish someone would hurry up and figure out how to make really long ropes out of carbon nanotubes
That and room temperature superconductors. Get those two things and we'll be ready to step out into the void.
don't know about you lot but spaceX sounds like a really cheesy porno name
fuck yeah, elon

You are some kind of special aren't you.
Finally, a company sending people to space that's not caught under government budget cuts.
SpaceX is like the dream-company. They don't care about maximizing profits, they care about pushing technology forwards, and into space.
Seriously, if there's a "best company award of the year" or something these guys should totally get it. SpaceX does in 10 years what poor, underfunded NASA does in 100.

I agree totally. They did a hell of a job making face to the public, and they did the same with their goals.

So that's where all my money went
Well, looks like the guy who made the sadfrog "You will never explore the galaxy" acted a little prematurely...
Wait, am I mis-reading something or is the payload for the ship (last slide of http://images.spaceref.com/news/2010/SpaceX_Propulsion.pdf) 750,000 tons?

To me, this guy looks like the next generation of auto repair mechanic. In 100 years, being a rocket scientist will be a minimum wage job.
elon musk is really the new henry ford, he's progressive, devoted and will push mankind to levels never seen before

Sorry Eudoxia, but that really shameless looks like a dick.
Awesome, gonna start up a company some day with similar goals, SpaceX is definitely a role model.

But they are so awesome that they don't need to work on maximising profits, everyone comes to them already.

SpaceX = Cerberus?
Aw I remember these guys.

We have to represent our manliness the right way when we encounter busty blue babes from outer space :q:

Well by the looks of things, we could have those within 5 years. There has been tons of nano-technology related inventions popping up in news recently.

Is funny because being an auto repair mechanic is already a minimum wage job.
