Who's your favorite vocalists?
Try to stray away from metal screeching/growling, and keep it to where everyone can understand what they're saying.
One of my favorites has to be Bobby Kimball from Toto. He does the higher pitched singing (and is the one dressed in black with the awesome mustache). Here's a live performance of Africa to show you what I mean:

Just wait till they reach the last chorus, he does a little bit of solo. What a voice!
As for female vocalists, check out Helene Bøksle. If you ever played Age of Conan, you probably heard her lending her voice to the amazing soundtrack. My favorite would have to be The Dreaming Anew - Memories of Cimmeria heard in Conall's Valley:

Skip to 1:20 to hear where it gets good (2:40 for the absolute best part).
Those are just a couple of my favorite vocalists. Perhaps I'll post a few more if the thread picks up.
Now let's hear some of your favorite vocalists.
Lady Gaga

Floor Jansen, I'm not a great fan of After Forever and ReVamp, but I love her voice. She sounds pretty much perfect live from what I've seen on YouTube

Florence and the Machine

Although these aren't necessarily my favourite, I think they're brilliant.

Ugh, the reason I don't want metal screech/growl vocalists is because this entire forum is being overrun by metal threads, and you can keep to those. This thread is put aside for other styles of singing, although metal is still aloud, I would appreciate it if you kept away from the screaming.
Mikael Akerfeldt. Sure he's a metal vocalist that also growls (awesomely), but there's no denying he has a great voice.

Ronnie James Dio

Michael Jackson (do you really need a video)
Freddie Mercury (as above)
Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley)

Peter Silberman (The Antlers)

I'm sorry, the thread title clearly says plainly "Great Vocalists," not "Great non-metal vocalists." I saw a thread titled "Great vocalists," I spent the time picking out songs I wanted to share, and then I come in, and what do I see? "NO NOT-SINGING PEOPLE BECAUSE I FIND THEIR VOICES ICKY AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THEM CUZ THEY'RE NOT SAYING REAL WORDS EWWWW!!" Are you trying to say that extreme vocalists are inherently bad? Then I guess that makes these vocals absolute abominations, don't they?

Serj Tankian
Howard Jones (Killswtich Engage)
Corey Taylor
Maybe you should make this thread 'Great Singers' instead, since that sounds like more what you were after.

I think she has a great voice too, but I dislike how she throws her voice around so much.
Also Jónsi (Jón Þór Birgisson) has an interesting voice too. I really enjoy it (most of the time).

And Dan Nigro from As Tall As Lions I love too.

Oh god Freddie Mercury.
David Gilmour. He doesn't do too much impressive but he sounds amazing.

not gonna bother with a big list.
I'm gonna be flamed for this one but:
Black Cobra - Sugar Water:

Forgive me, he yells yes, but he puts so much emotion into the yelling. It sends chills down my spine.
The guy in vildhjarta that sings, not screams, is very good aswell:

David Gilmour and Lemmy are also very close to my heart when it comes to vocals.
Tony Kakko, Sonata Arctica: (absolutely flawless live by the way)

Phil Anselmo, Pantera:

Rob Halford, Judas Priest:
Oh god Freddie Mercury.
Oh man I forgot Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian

Also Robert Plant
Sam Cooke, Al Green, Otis Redding and Curtis Mayfield.
Although the arguement has been that he can't sing, Bob Dylan has one of the greatest voices.
John and Paul from The Beatles.
Jeff Buckley, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Elton John, Jim Morrison, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Marley and Janis Joplin.
Who can forget Bruce Dickinson, Dio is even better though.
Bruce Springsteen and Bono.
Too

Everything about Blind Guardian is like an eargasm
My list will come later, gotta run out the door.

Nathan Winneke from HORSE the band, favourite vocalist ever. He's one ugly motherfucker, but he has the greatest mustache in the world. And he's fucking hilarious. The lyrics in H the B songs are mostly metaphors about events in his life, and they are VERY well written. I'll always love this man and his band. :buddy:

Eva Spence from Rolo Tomassi. She is exceptional at screaming, but she also has a really nice, calming singing voice. She's damn cute too. :3: She looks like she's sucking a guys dick in that pic though.

And last but not least, Peter Bunke AKA peet AKA Monomate. He's evolved so much through the years, and he keeps changing in a way that is very inspirational. I can sort of see a bit of myself in him, if you get what I mean. He's one of my biggest inspirations, and I've enjoyed all of the diverse music he's made. This song always makes me happy, so I chose to post this one:

Way to put words into my mouth. Besides, it's not my fault you can read a title and not the OP. You should start making good practice of it so you don't make yourself look like an ass again in the future.
I never, anywhere in this thread, said that I did not enjoy metal vocalists. If they're the right style for me, I thoroughly enjoy them. The reason I didn't want them in the thread is because I'd rather get a more broad array of music vocalists in here because almost the entire music forum is flooded with metal threads. There are more than enough of those to circle-jerk with your scream growl bullshit, but I specifically asked for otherwise in the OP.

Why has nobody mentioned James LaBrie from Dream Theater :saddowns:

I'm going to digress, but I just feel like pointing this out. The words I'm "putting in your mouth" are your own words.
Case in point: "scream growl bullshit"
Also, why aren't you taking the piss out of all the other people posting extreme vocalists in here? I'm sorry, mate, but your pretentious attitude is unnecessary. If you had left the whole metal thing alone, you would have gotten a lot of not-metal vocalists anyways. Look at any other not-metal-specific thread made in here, it happens a lot. Likewise, even though you did put your little anti-extreme-vocals banter in your OP, guess what, people are still posting them.
I just want to point out all you accomplished in posting that little rant was to stir up the hive. That being said, to contribute, I'm surprised no one has posted Nevermore. Personally, I love Warrel's vocals, and personally, I prefer them over LaBrie's vocals in Dream Theater. But then, I just prefer Nevermore to Dream Theater in a lot of cases. Particularly their Dead Heart in a Dead World.
