Christopher Rivas and his colleagues were about to turn their fishing boat for home when they noticed the half-submerged hull of the yacht Sajo sitting in the water about 60 miles off the coast of the southern Philippines. It had been more than a year since anyone had heard from the 40ft Sajo’s 59-year-old German skipper, Manfred Fritz Bajorat. It did not take long for Mr Rivas to discover why as he scrambled on board to help.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/mummified-german-sailor-manfred-fritz-bajorat-found-off-philippines-on-yacht-missing-for-a-year-a6904011.html http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/01/mummified-body-of-german-man-found-in-yacht-adrift-off-philippines NSFW : http://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/styles/story_medium/public/thumbnails/image/2016/02/29/20/1-manfred-fritz-BarbadosPolice.jpg
God damn that's freaky, poor guy. It's amazing they found the boat intact (partially) above water. If it had sunk, they would have no clue they were anywhere near the missing sailor.
You know, for being dead so long that guy still has a damn good head of hair.
[del]Hair continues to grow quite some time after your dead Learned that from Star Trek Enterprise :v:[/del] I'm super wrong apparently DAMN YOU STAR TREK
Hair continues to grow quite some time after your dead Learned that from Star Trek Enterprise :v:
Hair does not grow at all after death. Instead, your skin loses most of its water, causing it to tighten and shrink back, exposing more of the hair follicle out of the pore. Enterprise is not a science program.
I think it's a bit disturbing that they post pictures of him, especially when they write out his full name and stuff like that. I mean, as an "outsider", it's a bit fascinating and scary too see a mummified, anonymous corpse, but he left behind a daughter, and probably friends and people somewhat close to him. I wouldn't want to see my dads mummified corpse, and I especially wouldn't want the world to see it.
Hair continues to grow quite some time after your dead Learned that from Star Trek Enterprise :v:
Except that's not true at all and it only appears that way due to your skin receding/tightening after death, due to the body no longer being hydrated. Some urban legends just never die lol.
Poor man, how horrifying. Interesting how the yacht is still afloat after a year after what seems like a lot water and abuse (note the broken mast.)
jfc they're posting pictures of him when he was alive, along with his name, and topping it all off with the picture of his corpse? That doesn't seem very respectful at all.
Well duh he's been mummified all they need to do is give him some water and he'll be fine.
well, that's a pretty weird position to die. one of the articles stated that he might have died from an heart attack, wow.
What a weird position to be dead in. Is there any knowledge of cause of death?
Well duh he's been mummified all they need to do is give him some water and he'll be fine.
Don't they do this when shipping people to space?
You know, for being dead so long that guy still has a damn good head of hair.
there are egyptian mummies with perfect hair
You know, for being dead so long that guy still has a damn good head of hair.
iirc hair is tough as hell, it doesn't really decompose for thousands of years, it doesn't fall out after death, and really the only way it'll detach from the body is if the skin holding the hair in rots away. There are literally mummies that are 2000-3000 years old that still have a full head of hair, its insane, the same thing happens with teeth, and a lot of mummies actually have better teeth than most people today.
At least they found him, that'll be a relief to his family. :mysterysolved:
Hair continues to grow quite some time after your dead Learned that from Star Trek Enterprise :v:
Nope, you'd be wrong!
