That's terrifying. But I mean how could you not expect to flip the plane when landing in thick snow? The landing gear was sure to dig in.

They had little choice and they didn't know exactly how thick the snow was
I think they knew that's why it was scary
I remember seeing this on liveleak a few days ago, man those guys were tearing the pilot a new asshole.
It was pilot error though, as far as I know the carb froze and just made the engine worthless so he had to land. But also choosing to land in what you know is deep snow was also going to be bad without skis. He should have expected it. I mean I feel bad for him because he wrecked his plane but at least they got away unmarked.
As they say, any landing (or crash landing) you can walk away from is a good thing.
Damn it flipped too. That would have been awesome but terrifying.
I was listening to Kenny Loggins - Highway To The Dangerzone when I saw this thread :v:

oh god... is that guy at the end dead?
oh god... is that guy at the end dead?
Yes it's a known fact that dead people can move and blink.
oh god... is that guy at the end dead?
Nah he didn't die he just sustained some beating, all of them did more or less.

Those guys were incredibly lucky, crashes like that kill people all the time. I lost a good friend who went down in some trees from a jammed elevator shortly after takeoff. Almost the exact same scenario as these guys but my friend wasn't as lucky. I honestly can't believe that these guys got out alive from that looking at their plane afterwards.
funny how I saw this on TV as soon as I watched "Flight"

I'm surprised the old man was the only guy who took that bad of a beating.
That's going to be one hell of a video/story to show/tell the baby when he grows up.
Why not land it on the road? It looked perfect for an emergency landing. Small aircraft land on them all the time. I think two have landed on the one I live off of in the last 4 years

i'm sure he had a good reason to not land on the road
maybe there was too many cars or something

From the description:
We were looking for roads to land on, but there were just too many power lines next to or crossing these roads. The interstate (large road parallel to flight) can be seen from the beginning of the video, which is a 5 lane road with the middle turn lane. There was absolutely no safe way to land on that road. Had he tried I'm confident that a collision would've occurred and this story could easily have ended in a fatality.
god that title, I was going to cry seeing a baby die
yeah there is no reason to go off at the pilot
he had to land asap and the roads were not an option, so he had to land somewhere flat
usually the snow would be packed down for a runway, and if not, the only flat, landable surface I can think of is ice and landing on a frozen lake is probably the most stupid thing you could actually do
judging the depth of the snow from a couple of hundred meters is probably impossible, shame he had to lose his plane to that
Wow looked like it flipped so fast! Lucky they got out, not really the pilot's fault in my opinion since he had to land somewhere and it all looked pretty deep everywhere, maybe even worse in some parts.
