I'm surprised AMD processor fanboys even still exist considering how badly they've been falling behind Intel for the last five years :v: Hopefully Zen lives up to expectations.
don't forget Vega, not just Zen.

RX480's been a really good midrange launch, and recent events pushed AMD's stocks up insanely far (relative to past results).

The price before that little jump before May had the stocks at ~2.6. It's currently up to 10.34. With the Zen launch coming up and the Vega high-end cards being released reportedly in the first half of 2017, can you really blame the AMD fanboys for coming back?

Also, that plastic peel-back. Mmmm

I meant AMD processor fanboys exclusively. I still mentally think of the AMD GPUs as Radeon :v:

Ah, yeah.
Jesus fuck, Bulldozer was such a harsh hit to them.

I always get the best benching product at specific price point, this fanboyism is silly and it hurts the industry from both sides.

The problem is AMD focused way too much on adding more cores rather than improving per-core performance. Having six to eight cores sounds nice, but in reality having a quad core with much better performance per-core oftens performs way better overall in real world situations. Then, AMD fell behind with a lack of hyper threading, using a larger transistor process (meaning less efficient energy usage, which is awful for cooling and battery life, both of which particularly affect laptops where budget processors like AMD's would usually be used more often), and various other factors.
Bulldozer was an absolute trainwreck for AMD. I stopped even bothering to consider AMD in builds when it became evident that even an Intel i3 was preferable to a six core AMD processor in most situations, especially now that even i3 processors have hyperthreading.
I sincerely hope Zen is a breath of fresh air, because a monopoly benefits nobody, and it'd be nice to pay less for AMD processors if they're actually a viable alternative.

Are there even AMD CPU fanboys anymore? I mean they haven't released a non budget oriented processor since what, 2012? And Radeon is actually a separate division of AMD nowadays.
[editline]11th December 2016[/editline]
You can't really say they're still to focused on cores when they haven't even released a CPU in that market since :v:

It's not about being a fanboy really, it's more about pricepoint at this rate. I've had the same motherboard for 5 years now because I've never had to swap it out for different sockets. Not to mention Intel's socket design is really quite terrible, having to remove an entire mobo just to install a backplate for a new cooler is kinda ridiculous. I've had an FX-8120 for around 2 years now and it's done the job just fine. No complaints really and cost me very little.

If you have a not shit case the backplate thing is a non issue.

Watch the video :v: the video maker addressed the rightful questioning of using an AMD CPU + a 1080 with "suck it inteldrones amd4lyfe"
What's the game at 2:10?
Edit: Oh nevermind I just read the description. It's Phantasy Star Online 2.
Wow PSO2 looks great.
PSO2 is legit the best mmo that no one knows about or plays.
What's that racing and space combat game he was playing?

if sega brought it to the west and didnt try to block people who played it from the west we wouldnt have this problem.

Article is referring to the SEA version (which is arguably inferior to the JAP version). AFAIK they ended ISP blocks for the Japanese version, and you can still use the English patch with no issues.
Honestly would take no effort to bring it to the west. Fans have already done a majority of the work.
Oh wow AMD Zen is releasing in like, a month. What a waste of money for this guy to get another AM3+ motherboard.

Allegedly leaked benchmark results:

If true, Intel's about to get smashed into pulp, and I'll ditch Intel in favour of an SR7 and AM4 as soon as they're released. But I've no idea, similar (fake) results surfaced when Bulldozer was nearing release, and we all know how that turned out. What we do know is that these processors will be much more expensive than their previous ones, which shows that they at least have confidence in their products, which gives me hope. afaik AMD's going to hold a conference tomorrow where they'll reveal actual performance, talk more about pricing, and the official release date, so we'll see.
Yep: http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/new-horizon

I will go AMD in half an A press if those numbers are accurate.

They really don't have to bring it to the wast anymore considering how Tweaker is better than pso2 own launcher. It even supports threaded updates to fully utilize your 1000/1000 whatever connection.
Ship 2 is also mostly english speaking people. You will have no problem finding english players since japanese either speak english there or have left to other servers(ships).
JP version will still be superior, just because of all the collabs and content update intensity.

I mean those benchmarks are useless from a gaming standpoint. We probably won't see any real definitive performance until third party reviews, as it is for literally every computer component.

The SR5 is supposedly a quad core with hyperthreading, so if it actually does outperform both the i7 6600K as well as the 7700K that's a pretty clear indicator of high IPC (unless they're clocked ridiculously high), which in turn would also mean that they'll perform really well in games

For sure if that turns out to be true. But if they're pretty much tapped out from the get-go on speed that's no good either.

I'm not trusting shit from Zen rumors though, waiting until actual AMD release. They've covered literally anything a CPU could conceptually be at this point and as you said, fake benchmark leaks galore in past products.

I have a Cooler Master HAF that gives access to the backplate, but I still find it to be obnoxious. The whole push-spring-twist setup is just kinda silly. Again, pricepoint is the major factor in picking AMD over Intel - and provided you're not trying to max out every single game that's being released on the market, there's no need to spend $200 extra on an Intel proc when an AMD can fit the bill nicely. Really though, there's no need for animosity just because someone picks one brand over the other. Intel provides better performance, but at a hefty price. There's just other things I'd rather spend my money on, and I don't bash on Intel users just because they choose to spend their money on a more expensive processor.

The Intel i5 6500 can handle pretty much every game on max besides shit like ARMA and is under $200 by itself though? And an i3 can do anything you could with that cheaper AMD processor (Gaming wise). There's just no reason nowadays to buy a processor made in 2012 and the paltry chipset features that come with it, it's as simple as that. I'm not bashing anything.

He may prefer AMD CPUs because he doesn't want to give Intel any money because of the really scummy things they've done to AMD.

Now this is a legitimate reason but I find it hard to give them money for abandoning the performance market for 4 years. I have however bought a couple of AMD's budget oriented FM socket processors, because they're actually progressing that field.
