Police found 12-year-old Charlie Bothuell V, who was missing for 11 days, in his father's basement Wednesday afternoon. The boy's dad, Charlie Bothuell IV, was in an interview with HLN's Nancy Grace at the time. His phone's battery was dead, too. So the anchor broke the news to the Detroit dad — on live TV.

Police said Charlie's dad might have beaten the 12-year-old with a PVC pipe. Early in the investigation, officers found blood in his room and on his clothes. For a period, they wondered if they were investigating a homicide. Bothuell said he strictly disciplined his boy — who was homeschooled and on a stringent exercise regime — but never abused the child. No charges have been filed, and officers are still investigating those claims.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/dad-learns-missing-son-found-live-tv-article-1.1844682
This is a really misleading title. I thought it was saying the father had no idea where his son was and finds out he's been abused in his very own basement unknown to him :v:
Nominee for Most Sensationalist Title of 2014?
The reports are kind of jumbled and the title seems a bit misleading, so I'll wait to pass judgment. Anyhow, a full investigation should reveal the truth.
Okay, so, let me get this straight, because I'm really confused. The father was very strict and likely abused the boy. The boy got fed up with this and 'ran away', but really hid in the basement with help from his mom. (He also had a hidden tunnel out so that he could leave when people were searching or whenever he wanted.) The father got worried that his son was missing and dead, but then learned that he was hiding in the basement on live TV. Do I have that right?
Some people are just broken. Beyond crazy and stupid, just fucking broken, non-functional individuals.
that has to be the most awkward situation ever
