Kalashnikov USA has been approved by the city of Pompano Beach to assemble guns there.
Kalashnikov USA of Tullytown, Pa., was importing rifles made by Kalashnikov Concern, the original AK-47 manufacturer in Moscow, until 2014 when President Obama imposed sanctions against Russia following its annexation of Crimea. At that point, Kalashnikov USA severed all ties with the Russian company.
The company started making the guns in Pennsylvania last year, but is shifting manufacturing to Florida. Kalashnikov hasn't said why they are moving or how big the Pompano Beach operation will be.
The title is a tad misleading. A company called Kalashnikov is building AK's in Florida. It has nothing to do with Kalashnikov Concern or any Russian companies.
i was half expecting a florida-man story, good thing its a florida-company story

Who owns the design and the patents?
Who runs/owns Kalashnikov USA?
I'm having a tough time figuring out how this works on paper.

Izhmash never patented the design for the Kalashnikov action, for the sole purpose of people being able to build copies, it's part of why you get so many clones of those rifles like the AMD-65, Rk rifles, galil and MPiK
I'd wager the same thing happened here

Design/patent is pretty much open. Even if someone in Russia owned it considering the current political climate they'd never be able to sue over it.
The owners are RWC, who was the largest importers of Russian Firearms such as the Saiga rifles up until Obama made an executive order blocking such imports after Russia invaded the Cremian peninsula.
Hooray, more shitty American made overpriced AKM's!

New Russian AKM's! Now with 100% less Russian parts!
people keep saying US AK's are getting good or something
I still don't believe them
I wish the uk had shooting ranges and stuff as a common thing. Guns and their design fascinate me but they're about as common here as bald eagles
Wow they are making these so damn close to me. If they make wooden ones that's pretty cool

There's clubs and stuff but guns are so restricted here, you can get a straight-pull AR afaik.
Kind of makes it pointless if you are into guns for anything more than target shooting.

The main weakpoint of American made AKs has always been the barrels. "True" AKs have chrome lined barrels, but very few chrome lined barrels are made in the states. American AKs are getting better because they're actually pumping them out with proper chrome lined barrels.
Hell yeah, that's a 2 hour drive for me.

Chrome lined barrels aren't the main issue with American made AKM's, or American made firearms in general. If they're 100% American made and not built off a parts kit, then they're generally garbage firearms. Poor workmanship, poor assembly, poor manufacturing, and poor QC plagues American firearms.

They're not. Don't buy American made.

I don't know man, a century C39 blows a WASR-10 out of the water, and I'd still rather have one of those than a Tantal and some yugos.

This will be a thing.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

as opposed to something built in a soviet factory in either some unmarked town in Czechoslovak?
as opposed to something built in a soviet factory in either some unmarked town in Czechoslovak?
An AKM made by a conscripted underfed child is still a better quality AKM than one made by an American in Florida.

well it looks to me like it's a soviet design built on soviet equipment in a war factory vs jimbobs shit hot off the cnc mill
