When I sing I think it sounds pretty good, however I did a voice recording on my motorola razor and it sounds like complete ass. So which one should I go with?

your voice just sucks. Stop lying to yourself.
Discouraged me so much. I doubt I'll ever sing now.
Ok, I mean it wasn't THAT bad. I can keep working on it.
Every vocalist will tell you your voice sounds completely different recorded than what you hear in your head. You are going to think you sound terrible recorded, no matter what. Also need I mention that, it's a cell phone. Probably not the best quality recording in the world.
same goes for producing a song, you're gonna think it sounds like shit unless you have the confidence to tell yourself that it does sound good then again, it could sound like shit
This is how it goes, unfortunately. I had a similar experience, and it's a rather rude awakening. IMO get a voice teacher, they're usually quite worth it.
What you hear when talking normally is the vibrations in your skull mixing with the sound. When you record your voice and listen to it, your mind compares the voice to what you think you sound like and cause you to cringe in horrible agony.
Well I'm progressively getting better, the recording doesn't sound completely terrible, it's just that the voice I hear when singing sounds really good. It's just a matter of getting used to it. Soon you'll learn what your "real" voice sounds like and it won't sound bad at all. Of course your ability to sing may still be somewhat inferior, but that can be solved by practicing - alot.
An extremely easy way to tell how your voice actually sounds is to cover/plug one ear so you don't get the stereo in-head voice you normally hear, and instead hear your "Real Voice".
You need someone else's opinion, you always think you sound bad, no matter what.
It'd be nice if there was a program that'd put in the tenor/bass/treble that you hear yourself when you're talking due to sound vibrations in your skull. So your voice recorded sounds the same as when you're talking. :3:

I think I sound alright. [editline]09:25PM[/editline] I'm working on this song btw

After recording songs, I often listen to them a TON and really think I enjoy them. Same goes with my friends and their produced music. For my voice, I agree with the rest of the thread. Sounds like ass.
