Sara Ege used a stick to beat seven-year-old Yaseen “like a dog” if he couldn’t recite passages from the Islamic text. The beatings were so brutal that the boy died from his injuries, and his mother tried to burn the body to destroy the evidence, Cardiff Crown Court was told. Yaseen was originally thought to have died in the house fire. But a post-mortem examination showed Mrs Ege had been beating and abusing her little boy in the months leading up to his murder. In a video recording of her interview with police, Mrs Ege told them: “I was trying to teach him the Koran. “I was getting more and more frustrated. If he didn’t read it properly I would be very angry — I would hit him. “We had a high target. I wanted him to learn 35 pages in three months. “I promised him a new bike if he could do it. But Yaseen wasn’t very good — after a year of practice he had only learnt a chapter.” The court heard Mrs Ege, 32, a university graduate, and her husband, Yousuf, had enrolled Yaseen in advanced classes at their local mosque. They wanted him to become a hafiz — an Islamic term for someone who memorises the Koran. Yaseen was coming to the end of a three-month trial period at the mosque, and Ege was keen for him to impress his Imam. Mrs Ege told officers: “I was getting all this bad stuff in my head, like I couldn’t concentrate, I was getting angry too much, I would shout at Yaseen all the time.” She also hit him with a hammer, a rolling pin and a slipper, as well as repeatedly punching him, the court heard. She would allegedly lock him in the shed, tie him to a door, and force him to do press-ups. In the months after Yaseen’s death, Mrs Ege told a doctor she been told to kill him by Shaitan — an Islamic name for the devil, the court was told. She said: “I have become so harsh, I even killed my own son.” Her husband, 38, denies causing or allowing the death of a child by not stopping the beatings. The trial continues.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/9648856/Mother-murdered-son-for-failing-to-learn-the-Koran.html The mighty religion of peace strikes again...
Jesus Christ he was only seven years old. Fucking bimbo deserves a lifetime of being locked in the shed and beaten with the Koran
this is fucking awful, people take things too far

People like this deserve the chair IMO
Or, you know, good old-fashioned mental illness.
Yea, but religion empowers and justifies these beliefs. If an atheist was hearing voices from the devil, I think they would be more likely to find help since they don't believe devils exist. However, a devout muslim hearing the devil is more real since they have a predisposition to believing it in the first place.
Or, you know, good old-fashioned mental illness.
Not like there's any difference. (User was banned for this post ("Trolling" - MaxOfS2D))
Or, you know, good old-fashioned mental illness.
Which is the whole basis for religion.
Not like there's any difference.

Which is the whole basis for religion.
Shit, you two are just the same kind of ignorant, aren't you? What a joy that must be.
are you for real so it's only a real mental illness if an atheist says that it was the devil that told him/her that
No, I'm saying religion empowers people to act on their own mental illness. I'm saying that at some point someone will either realize that the shit that is going on in their head is completely crazy, or the words of god/satan, and religion tips the odds towards one side.
That's not how schizophrenia or other mental illnesses work at all.
Depends on the severity.
I don't think an absence of religion would fix anything though. Pretty much anything would be able to empower someone to act on their own mental illness.
shaitan is like a silly way to pronounce Satan hahahabut seriously what the fuck
There has to be something wrong with you to choose faith over your child.
Doesn't that make her "impure" if she obeys the devil
Doesn't that make her "impure" if she obeys the devil
No that mostly makes her very fucking stupid and/or mentally ill.
How many of these people do there have to be before the crazy minority becomes the majority? More and more seem to be popping up every day.
Not like there's any difference.
Wow You must have so many friends for being such an offensive, ignorant and closed in asshole.
How many of these people do there have to be before the crazy minority becomes the majority? More and more seem to be popping up every day.
Not really no. They have always been a very small minority.
Not really no. They have always been a very small minority.
This. A rational Muslim doesn't make for a story that sells, sadly.
How many of these people do there have to be before the crazy minority becomes the majority? More and more seem to be popping up every day.
It's the media. Do you think that they would report an Islam that rescues a cat from a burning building?
Just curious, how many more times does shit like this have to happen before you people stop defending 'the religion of peace'?
This isn't how it works... If they were atheists they'd probably just find another persona for it
Yeah, I saw one instance on facebook where this one girl believed the voices she was hearing came from celestial bodies like the sun, moon, planets, and stars.

If an atheist was hearing voices from the devil, I think they would be more likely to find help since they don't believe devils exist. However, a devout muslim hearing the devil is more real since they have a predisposition to believing it in the first place.
This has to be the most absurd thing I've ever heard uttered in a religion thread. BY ITS VERY DEFINITION, IF YOU ARE HEARING VOICES, THERE IS NO CONCRETE "REALITY" FOR YOU TO RATIONALIZE OR ANALYZE WHAT YOU ARE HEARING. THAT IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF MENTAL ILLNESS. An atheist hearing voices from the devil would be unable to rationalize what he is hearing, let alone remember that the devil doesn't exist.
This is not a ban x meme, i mean it seriously: Ban religion (User was banned for this post ("You're not going to weasel your way out of this one" - Starpluck))
This. A rational Muslim doesn't make for a story that sells, sadly.
Most importantly this is not even linked with her religion, she's just not right in her head. [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline]
This is not a ban x meme, i mean it seriously: Ban religion
Well you're an idiot then. I could really explain why your point is inherently wrong but that would take so long I'd be better off telling you you're horribly wrong and let you try and guess why you are.

It's not some magic defence. [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline]
This is not a ban x meme, i mean it seriously: Ban religion
yay fascism
Well he'll never learn it now will he?
