Yarr! Like many of our European brothers, we Canadians now have a pirate party of our own!
Maidens and Gentlepirates,
We are pleased to announce that as of April 12, 2010, the Pirate Party of Canada (PPCA) is officially eligible for Party Status.
After ten months of dedication and hard work, we have reached eligible status, which only leaves a 60-day “purgatory” period. After that, we will field candidates in subsequent federal elections, and begin the real work of a political party.
This day wouldn’t have arrived without you, the people of Canada. When we sent out the call for forms, you answered. Boy, did you answer. With the bare minimum of 250 forms being reached in such a short amount of time, we were shocked to see the confirmation forms all in within the space of a month. It goes to show that you, normal Canadians who really run the country, care about what goes on behind the scenes, in the dark, closed board rooms and at the negotiating tables of ACTA, the RIAA, and the CRTC. You’ve shown that we aren’t going to take the indignity of losing technological and cultural rights, so that record labels and big companies can further gouge us.
I can't see them getting many seats, but even one will give us a voice to help fight things like ACTA and the constant infiltration of the American copyright lobby in our country.
And hey, another party that isn't the conservative party is always good. You can view their homepage here.
We need one in USA.
These pirate parties seem to have no official ideology or dogma of how to run a country. That's a major turn off for me.

I don't think its the same as "Democrat" or "Republican" type of thing. I think its to get the most seats in the parliament under that party or some shit.

Quick rundown of Canadian politics:
The country is divided into many constituencies (or "ridings"), based on population and geographical areas. Parties put forth candidates to run in certain ridings (or them all, if they have a representative in each area). The winner in each riding gets a seat in parliament. One seat is one vote. The party with the most seats forms the leadership, and the party leader becomes Prime Minister. (We do not vote for the Prime Minster like you Americans vote for your president.) Now, there can be a minority or majority government. In the latter, the party with the most seats has more than 50% of them. In the former, the combined voting power of all the other parties outweighs that of the leading party's.
The Pirate Party will not have a candidate in each riding and will not be able to form the leadership under any circumstance. However, each seat will give them a louder voice in the minority and they'll be able to "buddy up" with other parties to make their vote even more powerful.
As it stands now, we have a Conservative minority government.

I had no idea.
Dude, fuck that. Everybody vote for the green party.

how complicated, our american ways are far more superior and simple, in every election, there's only two candidates running at any given time to make it easier and simple for us americans
silly zeke and silly canadians.

Vote NDP. It's the furthest you can vote from Conservative without actually throwing your vote away.

“Piracy for personal use is no longer targeted,” Noël St-Hilaire, head of copyright theft investigations of the RCMP, said in an interview with Le Devoir. “It is too easy to copy these days and we do not know how to stop it,” he added.
St-Hilaire explained that they would rather focus on crimes that actually hurt consumers such as copyright violations related to medicine and electrical appliances, as well as ones that affect organized crime.
That's more or less the RCMP's attitude on pot too, at least in most places.

which is why you guys have only two choices as to how the country is run, and they're pretty much the same anyway
:yarr:
Nice. Will be interesting to see how many other countries picks up on this.

All British colonies probably work the same.
Didn't Sweden have one as well?

just a voice. Their plan is not to take over the country and turn it all shit. Basically (atleast in germany) they are the representatives of the gamer fraction in the parlament.
But our pirate party got some bad light shed on it as one of the leaders had child pornography on his pc...
The UK needs one.
I doubt they will get many if any seats, still pretty epic though.
I think all of these pirate parties can go to hell.
Yes, finally!
I'd love for them to win a seat in parliament!
These pirate parties seem to have no official ideology or dogma of how to run a country. That's a major turn off for me.
There never going to run a country the just want enough votes, if they get enough other party's will copy some of there ideas to get there voters back.
Didn't Sweden have one as well?
In the European Parliamentary election in 2009, swedish pirate party had 7.1% of the voters (that's about 226 000 votes).
they have 2 mandates in the EU parliamentary.
